- Responds to all calls for service requested from the local school principal or designee regarding crisis situations.
- Ability to defuse potentially hostile situations.
- Reports all police operations and activities to the Chief of police of his/her designee.

- Assist truancy officers in seeking and locating possible truants.
- Assist the campus by filing charges and conducting follow-up investigations as needed.
- Assist the campus in education of the merits staying in school and the probabilities of life without an education.
- Write effective, legal incident/offense reports.
- Collect evidence as necessary for supporting criminal investigations: witness statements, real evidence etc.
- Collect proper information from suspects/witnesses without violating civil rights.
- Apprehend offenders.
- File appropriate criminal charges as applicable with the proper agency.
- Enforce all laws of both felony and misdemeanor degree of federal, state and local origin.
- Conduct investigations when deemed necessary based on sound information concerning an alleged criminal offense.
- Investigate motor vehicle traffic accidents.
- Assist principals with domestic complaints or complaints concerning unauthorized persons on campus.
- Conducts student training version in conflict resolution, restorative justice and crime awareness.
- Conducts training in crime prevention and safety.
- Assist the Transportation Department with problems at bus stop areas and/or chronic disruptions on school buses upon their requests.
- Escort buses on school activities.
- Assist other police agencies concerning criminal investigations when requested.
- Stop and identify suspicious persons and/or vehicles.
- Enforce all rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Trustees of ECISD within district procedure guidelines.
- Take such other actions within the guidelines set forth in the "Procedures Manual", as the police officer deems reasonably necessary in order to fulfill the objectives set forth in the "Procedures Manual".
- Implements the Trident Approach to address gang and criminal activity at the campus.
- Reports all police operations and activities to the Chief of police or his/her designee.
- Assists in normal security measures.

- Investigate all crimes reported to ECISD police department.
- Work cooperatively with outside agencies.
- Interview witnesses.
- Write technical reports, affidavits, and other documents pertinent to investigation.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Detective Sergeant will assist the Chief of Police Captain to supervise assigned police & security staff and train a shift, squad or district area of campus police officers and/or civilian staff. He/she will assist in coordinating the daily operations of the department to provide a safe environment for students and staff. Also is responsible for handling law enforcement matters throughout the District as stated in the Edinburg CISD Police Department "Procedures Manual", Board of Trustee Policies, and applicable federal, state and local laws, as per 37.081 of the Texas Education Code. The Detective Sergeant is responsible for conducting investigations of all crimes reported in Edinburg School District, for completing assigned criminal investigations and processing case reports to be submitted to the Juvenile Probation Office and District Attorneys’ Office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
TEA certification requirements
High School Graduate or GED, college degree; or college hours preferred
Law Enforcement Training and experience
Criminal and juvenile investigative skills
Public relations experience preferred
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Must have a current Texas Peace Officers’ license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standard
Must meet all requirements for licensing by TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standard
Must hold a current valid Texas Class "C" driver's license
Must be bondable by a standard bonding company
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrate ability to work effectively with youth as well as adults
Demonstrate ability to write and type an effective, correct and legibly complete offense report
Strong leadership skills and abilities, including the ability and skill to assume responsibility over others
Ability to direct personnel under emergency, unpredictable, unusual, stressful and/or dangerous conditions
Strong investigative skills, processing case reports for submission to appropriate courts
Experience Preferred:
Five years of experience as Police Officer and/or Criminal Investigator preferred
