Overview

Catholic Charities of Buffalo is currently seeking a Part-Time Pantry Service Representative to join our Nutritional Health department. This role plays a vital part in providing temporary food assistance to individuals and families in need across Erie County. The ideal candidate will be committed to reducing poverty and food insecurity through compassionate service and efficient pantry operations. This position requires both teamwork and independent initiative, with scheduled hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at various pantry locations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform food pantry tasks such as receiving donations, sorting and storing products, stocking shelves and coolers, and discarding waste.

  • Ensure effective and efficient pantry operations.

  • Support and assist pantry volunteers and staff in completing all tasks.

  • Assist pantry clients and guide volunteers in helping clients navigate the pantry.

  • Work safely and comply with all safety rules and procedures; promote team safety.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas to meet USDA standards.

  • Represent Catholic Charities in a courteous and professional manner with donors, volunteers, visitors, community members, agency partners, clients, and staff.

  • Support food drives and pickups as directed, including occasional Saturday work.

  • Attend staff and training meetings as directed.

  • Assist with snow removal as needed to ensure safe walking conditions for staff, volunteers, and clients.

  • Adhere to federal and state laws regarding confidentiality, privacy, billing, documentation, and program standards.

  • Comply with Catholic Charities' Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, and all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, ensuring all duties are performed in alignment with organizational standards for confidentiality, privacy, documentation, and ethical conduct.

  • Maintain physical ability to lift and safely move up to 25 pounds without assistance.

  • Possess a valid NYS Driver's License, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel between locations within the same workday.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Associate's degree required; a degree in a human services field is preferred.

  • Must have experience in a related field or working with individuals, families, and communities in need.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Volunteer experience preferred but not required.

  • Customer service experience preferred but not required.

  • Must be compassionate and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of those served.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Basic computer skills required; willingness to learn new programs is essential.
