Job Summary: Supervises and directs activities of the Vehicle Maintenance team of 8-10 mechanics. Together with the assistant mgr. and 2 shop leads is responsible for a fleet of roughly 140 vehicles consisting of snow cats, loaders, construction equipment, transit buses, snowmobiles, trucks, SXS’s, and quads. The manager oversees all shop operations. Provides team direction to meet expectation goals and maintain a safe working environment. Ensuring all fleet vehicles are safe and functioning properly for our operations teams.

Salaried: The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Palisades Tahoe Resort, LLC’s salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Palisades Tahoe Resort, LLC’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Base salary range: $84,147 - $117,806 per year

Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks include the following: other duties may be assigned:

  • Ensure internal customers are treated courteously, safely and efficiently.
  • Responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of Vehicle Maintenance department including capital replacement planning
  • Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with Palisades Tahoe policies and applicable laws. 
  • Interviews, hires, trains, and appraises performance of employees.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining labor and equipment expense budget.
  • Determines work priorities, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
  • Issues written and oral instructions to the team and department
  • Assign duties and examine work for safety, exactness, and conformance to policies and procedures I.e. CARB, HazMat, Spill Prevention, DOT BIT program etc.
  • Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
  • Responds to customer and management complaints.
  • Performs or assists subordinates in performing duties in both training and development of staff.
  • Participate in best practice dept meetings with two other vehicle shop managers and director of vehicle maintenance.

Competencies and Job Requirements:

  • Ability to perform all Vehicle Maintenance duties.
  • Good leadership, customer service, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to navigate the Microsoft suite of programs, including D365 and Excel
  • Utilize various other software programs including, Workday, Phoenix, Samsara, Mitchel 1, and Pisten Bully maintain.
  • Valid class C driver’s license is a must, while a CDL class A or B is preferred.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Vehicle Maintenance or related experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, see, hear and smell.  The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects tools or controls. You must be capable of walking or standing 70% or more of a normal 10-hour work shift.  Must be capable of occasionally lifting and pushing or pulling 100 lbs or more, and frequently lifting, pushing or pulling, and carrying up to 20 lbs.  Must be capable of frequent climbing movements, walking on uneven terrain, walking on snow and ice, skiing, and operating a snowmobile. Can bend, kneel, reach, and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:

Indoor/Outdoor: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be exposed to outside weather conditions and work near moving mechanical parts in precarious places.

Hazardous Materials/Noise: Employee will often be in contact with hazardous substances. They will be occasionally exposed to extreme hot/cold and wet conditions, noise, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electric shock. The noise level in the workplace is usually loud.

Equipment Used in Job: Vehicle repair tools, mechanical tools, snowmobiles/ATVs, Over-snow vehicles, 4WD vehicles, computers, snow removal equipment and 2-way radios.
