DP World is hiring an Automation Technician (PLC) who will be responsible for the systems commissioning, management of all automation software and hardware related to Drives, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), PC’s and control systems installed on Quay Cranes (QC’s).

 

How Will You Contribute

  • Develop understanding of all automation software in order to troubleshoot PLCs, Drives and other control systems installed on Quay Cranes

  • Play an active role in the delivery and commissioning of new Quay Crane Automation systems

  • Continually monitor the performance of QC’s in order to find/propose ways of continuous improvement.

  • Optimize the performance of QC’s considering operational patterns, business demands and industry developments.

  • Develop full understanding of troubleshooting Quay Cranes 

  • Assist in the procurement planning of spares considering maintenance schedules, consumption trends and lead times

  • Troubleshoot control systems from a hardware perspective

  • Improve the reliability and MMBF of Quay Cranes with a special emphasis on the root cause analysis of recurring issues

  • Manage version control, back up of software. Manage proper documentation control for software updates, changes and backups

  • Develop skills to upgrade different automation software installed on Quay Cranes

  • Optimize the performance of Cranes by working closely with the suppliers and end users. Follow up with the suppliers on the issues recorded on their support portals.

  • Provide necessary training to technicians/team leaders with respect to automation and troubleshooting 

  • Assist the team in the implementation of H&S policies and procedures in the maintenance organization. 

  • To ensure that RAMS for all the maintenance activities are documented and implemented.

  • Provide necessary support to develop/fine tune method statements and risk assessments.

  • Actively participate in the maintenance of QC’s

  • Provide on-site guidance and support to Team Leaders and ensure daily compliance with H&S legislation and company procedures. 

  • Assist in the development and implementation of new projects to improve equipment monitoring and reliability

 

What You Will Bring

  • National Qualifications Framework – Level 3 or higher 

  • Excellent knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, AC drives and control systems. Siemens PLC programming skills are not mandatory but preferred. 

  • Computer literate with excellent report writing skills.

  • Experience in automated systems related commissioning, configuring and programming software

  • In depth knowledge of Control systems, AC drives and Programmable Logic controllers 

  • Dynamic, creative and innovative.

  • Minimum 3 years of automation programming/commissioning experience preferably in a relatable highly automated environment with strong knowledge of PLC communication protocols

  • Excellent communication and personal skills. 

  • Experience and knowledge of HSE practices/regulations related to equipment maintenance and activities

 

NOTE: All of our roles are subject to the below:

  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • A full valid UK driving licence or appropriate international licence allowing you to drive on UK roads
  • No unspent criminal convictions
  • Due to manufacturing guidance and safety weight limits, our safety critical roles require an individual to weigh under 130kg .
  • We may close our roles early, depending on the number of applications received.
