Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced PCB Layout Engineer with deep expertise in Altium Designer to create and deliver complex, multi-layer PCB designs that integrate RF, high-speed digital, and precision analog circuits. This is a hands-on, technical role requiring close collaboration with RF, digital, and analogue engineers to achieve best-in-class PCB layouts that meet performance, manufacturability, and reliability standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop complex PCB layouts in Altium Designer, from schematic capture to manufacturing release.
  • Collaborate closely with RF, digital, and Analog engineers to define layout rules, placement, and routing strategies.
  • Apply RF and analog layout techniques, including controlled impedance traces, grounding, shielding, and isolation methods.
  • Execute high-speed routing (DDR, Ethernet, SerDes, CAN, LVDS) with impedance control and length-matching.
  • Define and optimise PCB stack-ups, balancing electrical, thermal, and mechanical requirements.
  • Generate fabrication and assembly outputs (Gerbers, ODB++, drawings, BOMs) directly from Altium Designer.
  • Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) checks with fabrication/assembly partners.
  • Support signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC compliance.
  • Perform 3D clearance and mechanical integration checks using Altium Designer’s MCAD collaboration tools.
  • Contribute to cross-functional design reviews, providing expert layout input.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven track record in complex PCB design projects involving RF, digital, and analog subsystems.
  • Advanced proficiency in Altium Designer (component libraries, rules, constraints, 3D modelling, outputs).
  • Strong understanding of RF layout methods, transmission lines, isolation strategies, and grounding/shielding.
  • Expertise in high-speed design techniques (controlled impedance, differential pairs, skew/length matching).
  • Solid knowledge of PCB stack-up design, fabrication materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with IPC design standards (IPC-2221, IPC-6012, IPC-7351, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with HDI PCB designs in Altium Designer.
  • Knowledge of thermal management strategies for dense boards.
  • Exposure to signal/power integrity and EMC simulation tools.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype bring-up, rework, and hardware debugging.
  • Industry experience in aerospace or Satcom sector

Benefits

  • Generous salary and annual bonus
  • Stock options
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • 25 days annual leave + public holidays
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Car scheme (salary sacrifice)
