JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Athletics supports the Director of Athletics and Principal in the organization, direction, and supervision of all facets of Bishop McNamara High School's interscholastic athletic program. This individual helps ensure that the athletic programs reflect the mission and values of the Congregation of Holy Cross and Bishop McNamara High School.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Director of Athletics will assist in the leadership and daily management of the Athletics Department, including but not limited to:
Program Leadership & Compliance
- Collaborate with the Director of Athletics to uphold the mission, vision, and values of Bishop McNamara High School and the Congregation of Holy Cross in all athletic programming.
- Ensure compliance with all policies and regulations of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) and other governing bodies.
- Serve as a school representative, along with the Principal and President, in WCAC activities and communications.
- Maintain high standards of safety, security, and ethical conduct across all athletic events and personnel.
Coach Management
- Participate in the hiring process for athletic coaches.
- Supervise and evaluate all athletic coaches, including performance reviews, formation, and professional development.
- Ensure coaches comply with WCAC, school, and safety policies.
- Assist in coordinating scheduling and facility use for all athletic events, practices, and internal/external facility reservations.
- Assists in managing on-campus athletic event schedules and logistics.
- Maintain and supervise the upkeep of specific facilities, including dragging of the softball field and maintaining supervision gymnasium floors safety.
- Assist in developing and managing the Athletics Department budget in collaboration with the Director of Athletics.
- Maintain inventory of team equipment and uniforms; oversee distribution and collection.
- Assist in scheduling transportation for all athletic teams; manage use of school vans and coordinate with drivers as needed.
- Oversee game-day operations for fall, winter, and spring sports.
- Coordinate and manage all athletic award ceremonies.
- Assist in monitoring proper coach communication with parents, players, and coaches, including signature collection for player-coach-parent agreements.
Communications & Recognition
- Manage updates to the athletics website and online team pages (Maccess).
- Track and report student-athlete honors (e.g., WCAC Honors, All-Met recognitions).
- Coordinate Student-Athlete Leadership Council activities.
- Track and report athletic parent volunteer hours through use of MobileServe.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining practice schedules and transportation logs.
- Assist with contract management for coaches.
- Assist in addressing and resolving complaints or concerns related to athletic programs.
- Assist in planning and contribute to ongoing improvements in athletic programs and facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or Principal.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least three to five years of related experience in athletic administration, coaching, or sports management at the high school or collegiate level.
- Familiarity with WCAC rules and Catholic school athletics preferred.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Willingness to continue to learn and examine new ideas pertinent to the assigned sport.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel with athletic teams as needed.
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission of Catholic education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The person employed for this position must:
- Verify identity and employment authorization
- Complete a pre-employment background check
- Be CPR/AED/1st aid certified (can be completed after hire but prior to season beginning on September 1, 2025.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead. Physical ability to manage chalk-lining of and monitoring the maintenance of the Softball field.

LOCATION / TRAVEL: While Bishop McNamara High School is located in Forestville, MD, you may live anywhere in the surrounding region, but be willing to make any commute to the school.
