Under general supervision of the Director, prepares equipment and patients for radiographic and diagnostic imaging procedures. Maintains a safe environment to deliver the highest quality patient care and accurate imaging.
- Radiologic Technologist I: Prepares equipment and patients for radiographic procedures. Safely and accurately performs radiographic procedures and functions, as ordered and directed according to established practices and procedures.
- Radiologic Technologist II: Prepares equipment and patients for diagnostic imaging procedures, including radiographic and computerized tomography (CT) procedures. Safely and accurately performs radiographic and CT functions, as ordered and directed according to established practices and procedures.
All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Rad Tech I:
- Proper setup, use, and operation of X-ray equipment, utilizing correct settings for each examination.
- Positions and instructs patients, and determines proper exposure factors for each radiograph.
- Proper setup, use, and operation of mobile X-ray equipment.
- Uses proper safety standards and radiation protection devices.
- Under direction of Radiologist, administers contrast media of different kinds for evaluation of internal organs and systems.
- Attends all in-services and meetings as required.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
- Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
- Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Rad Tech II:
Includes all duties listed under Rad Tech I, plus:
- Proper setup, use, and operation of CT scanner in accordance with established procedures.
- Safely and accurately performs computerized tomography (CT) procedures and functions, as ordered and directed according to established practices and procedures.
Requirements
Education (Both Levels):
- Completion of a formal radiology technology program required.
Experience:
- Rad Tech I: None required; one year of experience preferred.
- Rad Tech II: Documented supervised performance of a minimum of 125 repetitions of computerized tomography (CT) procedures according to ARRT criteria preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
- Current State of Texas license required (both levels).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of employment, before patient care is administered independently (both levels).
- Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred (both levels)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Medium strength is required to position patients for examination or treatment.
- Frequent: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing & walking.
- Occasional: reaching, bending, squatting, climbing kneeling, twisting.
- Visual and hearing acuity required; depth perception needed to examine exposed film for pertinent details. Work is mostly inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
- Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.
