The Optometrist will provide high-quality, patient-centered vision care in a clinical environment. This role involves performing comprehensive eye exams, diagnosing ocular conditions, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Providing the well eye check for those with visual concerns.
- Evaluation, management and diagnosis of patients with acute visual issues within the appropriate scope of an Optometrists.
- Appropriate prescriptions of medications to treat acute and chronic eye disease within scope of practice.
- Management and Diagnosis of chronic eye disease within scope of practice.
- Prescription of aides to assist in the improvement of visual acuity including eyeglasses and contact lenses.
Skills and Experience:
Required:
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution.
- Eligible for licensure in the state of Minnesota
- Board eligible/ board certified in Optometry
Preferred:
- Experience working with electronic medical records
- BLS Certified
Required Competencies:
This position is a direct care provider and requires the ability to give adequate care to patients/residents in the following age groups:
Infant (Birth to 1 Year)
Child (2-12)
Adolescent (13-17)
Adult (18-65)
Geriatric (65 and over)
Physical Demands:
Sedentary Work:
Work activities that require lifting of objects up to 10 – 20 lbs. on rare to occasional basis. Sedentary work generally involves sitting most of the time, but may also involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Roles are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Physical Requirements:
- May complete computer work activities for the majority of the day with work tasks that require occasional standing to retrieve items from the other work spaces or use office equipment.
- May assume reaching in vertical height within 20-35” on a regular basis and occasionally at 6-18” or at 40-60” when retrieving items from storage. May bend from sitting or standing position to retrieve items from lower storage. Reaching in the front and to the side most often.
- May use both hands to with simple grasping and pinch grasping to operate office equipment at desk heights. May require light grip or pinch force with activities.
- May handling office supplies that weigh less than 10 lbs. frequently such as reams of paper and rarely up to 15 – 20 lbs.
Work Environment:
A fast-paced clinical environment with multi-tasking, prioritizing, and frequent interruptions. Continuous interpersonal communication is required with patients, surgeons, managers, staff, volunteers, and the general public.
Required Work Schedule:
Work schedule for the clinic is generally Monday through Friday 0800-1630.
