Overview:

WRAL is seeking a dynamic and versatile Enterprise Consumer Multi Platform Journalist  who thrives on uncovering original, impactful stories that matter to our communities. This role requires excellence across platforms—TV, digital, and social media—with the ability to produce high-quality video content, deliver engaging live reports, and publish compelling written and visual content for WRAL.com, the WRAL News mobile app, and our YouTube and social channels.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a track record of enterprise reporting, with a specific interest towards consumer and cost of living stories, visual storytelling, and multiplatform content creation. This position requires delivering at least three original TV stories per week and consistent digital and social media output.

  1. Multiplatform Reporting & Content Creation
  • Report and produce a minimum of 3 enterprise stories per week for WRAL-TV, with an emphasis on consumer and cost of living stories, based on originality, depth, and community impact.
  • Write and publish stories daily for WRAL.com and WRAL mobile apps, ensuring clear, accurate, and SEO-optimized copy that aligns with AP style.
  • Create video-first content for the WRAL YouTube channel, leveraging platform best practices to reach digital audiences.
  • Generate engaging and timely posts across WRAL’s social media platforms, including X, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, integrating visuals, live hits, and links to stories.
  1. Field Production & Visual Storytelling
  • Capture high-quality video footage using professional camera gear, ensuring all content is visually compelling and creatively composed.
  • Conduct live and recorded field reporting in diverse environments and conditions—including breaking news, features, and enterprise pieces.
  1. Technical Execution & Live Reporting
  • Operate and maintain professional-grade video, lighting, and audio equipment.
  • Set up and manage live shots using bonded cellular gear or station resources; coordinate with producers and directors for seamless execution.
  • Deliver live reports and teases with confidence, accuracy, and on-brand energy.
  1. Collaboration & Editorial Input
  • Partner with producers, photographers, digital content creators, and newsroom leadership to identify, pitch, and shape enterprise content.
  • Contribute fresh ideas during editorial meetings and maintain a pipeline of unique story pitches.
  1. Post-Production & Editing
  • Edit all video elements using non-linear editing systems to produce polished packages for both broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Ensure editing reflects high production standards, sound storytelling structure, and creative pacing.

 Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, Communications, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a television newsroom as a reporter, MMJ, or photojournalist, with a portfolio showcasing strong writing, shooting, and editing.
  • Proficiency in:
    • Non-linear editing systems (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro)
    • Newsroom systems such as ENPS, Edius, FTP transfers
    • LiveU, Dejero, or other remote transmission equipment
  • Mastery of AP Style and digital writing techniques.
  • Understanding of social media storytelling and platform-specific strategies.
  • Strong editorial judgment with commitment to journalistic integrity and ethics.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of curiosity and urgency.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
  • Professional appearance and strong on-camera presence.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or irregular shifts as news dictates.

Performance Metrics:

  • TV Reporting: Minimum of 3 enterprise stories per week.
  • Digital Publishing: At least 4–5 original pieces per week for WRAL.com and the mobile app.
  • YouTube Contributions: Weekly content contributions in video format, either as packages, explainers, or special segments.
  • Social Media Engagement: Daily engagement via original content, live hits, and promotional posts tailored to platform and audience.

  • Extended Periods of Standing/Sitting in a stationary position as needed for writing stories, conducting research or reporting.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, editing equipment, microphones, and monitors.
  • Lifting & Carrying Equipment: Occasionally required to lift, carry, and set up production equipment, such as cameras, tripods, and lighting gear (up to 25 lbs).
  • Visual & Auditory Requirements: Strong eyesight and hearing are necessary to monitor audio levels and video/image quality.
  • Mobility & Stamina: Ability to move between studios and the newsroom as needed, sometimes in fast-paced environments.
  • Analytical mindset: Ability to learn quickly and stay engaged in newest tools, formats and techniques for managing newsroom content.

  • May require early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts depending on news cycles, production schedules, and live streaming demands.
  • Tight deadlines and breaking news situations may necessitate extended hours and quick turnaround times.
  • Fast-paced, high-pressure environment, especially during live broadcasts and breaking news events.
  • Must be able to multitask and adapt quickly.
  • Occasional fieldwork for live reporting, interviews, or event coverage, which may include outdoor settings in varying weather conditions.
  • Occasional travel within our coverage area as needed for research and reporting purposes.
