OVERVIEW: The Instructional Assistant - Behavior supports the school’s Positive Behavior and Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team by providing preventive, restorative, and crisis support for students and staff, in addition to supporting the school environment as a whole.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support building and district Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) systems and routines.
Work collaboratively with the District Behavior Coach, Building Administration, PBIS Team, and District Administration.
Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce positive behavior within the school environment.
Be available to help carry out behavior plans and meet needs of individual students as needs arise.
Assist with collecting student and building data related to use of the Sensory Room and Behavior Support Room.
Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
Attend and participate in professional development as assigned which may include; CPI and Restorative Practices, Vector Training or other training that may be relevant to the student and/or the position.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing with families, students, and school staff members.
Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas as needed.
Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere, promoting positive social interactions, adaptive skills and emotional development among students.
Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse needs.
Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to accommodate varying student requirements.
Perform any other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job successfully:
Bilingual, consisting of but not limited to English/Spanish encouraged.
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training is required for this position. Will be provided by the district.
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of college level coursework or passing of examination as required by the No Child Left Behind Act.
Prior experience working with children desired.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
Works in standard office and school building environments.
Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
Mobility: Ability to move around the classroom and school environment, assist students in different locations, and accompany them during activities within the school premises.
Adaptability: Being able to adapt to various physical environments and learning settings, which might involve sitting, standing, or kneeling for extended periods.
Safety Awareness: Maintaining awareness of safety protocols and being prepared to act swiftly in case of emergency situations or to ensure the safety of students.
