AVAILABLE POSITIONS:

  • 7th/8th Grade Boys Basketball Head Coach: 1 position
  • 7th/8th Grade Boys Basketball Assistant Coach: 1 position
  • 5th/6th Grade Boys Head Coach: 1 position 

SUMMARY: The Coach shall have a good knowledge of the sport; be able to communicate with athletes clearly and effectively; enthusiastically and successfully recruit student-athletes; foster positive relationships and a strong team culture; and coordinate the sport program 

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates understanding that there are year-round responsibilities with the position 
  • Is cognizant of the health and safety of each participant, aware of the necessity for harmony and cooperation in the school, and is dedicated to the total Athletic program while attempting to instill a desire to win in each athlete 
  • Enthusiastically and successfully recruits student-athletes, fostering positive relationships and a strong team culture 
  • Communicates with student-athletes and parents clearly and effectively 
  • Stress good sportsmanship, safety, and the values of athletics, positive community relations and a positive image of the school to student-athletes, staff and opponents 
  • Organize and schedule practice and games with approval of the Athletic Director 
  • Conducts regular sport practice sessions for up to two hours on weekdays throughout the sports season (except with the permission of the Athletic Director to cancel a particular practice session) 
  • Teach the philosophy, rules, strategy and fundamental skills associated with the sport to student-athletes 
  • Accompanies and supervise student-athletes on sporting events at TSD and throughout the state and country
  • Provides direct supervision of student-athletes in vehicles, locker rooms, gyms, playing fields, and dining rooms 
  • Becomes familiar with the CAPPS (Capital Area Private & Parochial Schools) Manual, bylaws, and comply with all TSD policies and procedures 
  • Attend all meetings required by the Athletic Director 
  • Supervise and instruct student-athletes and managers in caring for and storing equipment and supplies; maintaining lockers, showers and supply rooms; washing towels and uniforms; keeping scores and statistics; and securing personal items 
  • Control key and building security including checking out keys and returning them at the end of the season; securing all doors; and turning out lights at the completion of practice or event 
  • Provides the Athletic Director with up-to-date rosters and eligibility lists at the beginning of the season and at any time the roster changes 
  • Consults with the Athletic Director prior to suspending or dismissing any student-athlete from the sport team 
  • Cares for injured student-athletes, working closely with the Athletic Trainer when available, on the TSD campus by sending them immediately (if possible) to the Health Center 
  • Reports any hazardous situation to the Athletic Director in a timely manner 
  • Maintains certification in First Aid and CPR (TSD Policy DBA) 
  • Be responsible for reporting game results to the appropriate social media outlets 
  • Responsible for assisting Athletic Director in selecting, supervising, and evaluation of Assistant Coach(es) 
  • Fills out any necessary paperwork/online forms to reserve a spot for the tournament/meet 
  • Complete any training/courses that are required by TSD

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Sign Language: At the time of hire, the applicant must have sign language skills equivalent to an ADVANCED level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) 

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED 

  • Proficient signed communication skills 
  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within one month of employment
