Position: Aide, Classroom Behavior Management

Location: Districtwide Services (Elementary Campuses)

 

Assist the Coordinator of Student Services in the preparation and management of student classroom behavior.  Assist in the implementation of classroom programs to support students, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction.  Work under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Student Services to support all campuses with student behavioral management needs.

 

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas paraprofessional certificate
  • CPI certification preferred (required upon hire)

 Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability and demonstrated aptitude in the instruction of students in assigned area
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Knowledge of behavioral and instructional strategies designed specifically for children with special needs preferred
  • Physically capable of meeting all performance responsibilities required with students, including stooping, bending, and lifting.

Experience:

  • Two years of experience working with student behavior management preferred

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Assist the Coordinator in the preparation and management of classroom behavior and work under the supervision of the Coordinator of Student Services.
  1. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative guidelines, local board policy and state law.
  1. Assist the Coordinator in preparing instructional materials and behavioral training.
  1. Work with individual students or small groups to conduct behavioral exercises.
  1. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
  1. Keep the Coordinator and campus staff informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  1. Participate in staff development training, department meetings and special events as assigned.
  1. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  1. Maintain confidentiality concerning student records.
  1. Exhibit a positive attitude toward others by acting as a role model for district employees, students, and the community that supports the mission of the district and/or campus goals.
  1. Demonstrate cooperation by working effectively with others including supervisors, peers, teachers, parents, and students.
  1. Demonstrate dependability by being punctual and present at work, unless for good cause.
  1. Exhibit reliability by completing work as assigned.
  1. Exhibit appropriate grooming and dress for the position and responsibility.
  1. Directs students into safe learning activities and functions.
  1. Comply with policies and procedures pertaining to job assignment.
  1. Demonstrate proper maintenance, care, storage and use of equipment and materials.
  1. Maintain proper safety and security precautions to prevent unnecessary or unreasonable risk of injury to self or others.
  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Student Services.

  • Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stoopping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Frequent walking 
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling (less than 15 pounds); occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling (up to 50 pounds)
  • Environment: Work inside and outside, regular exposure to noise and the elements
  • Mental Demands: Maintain control under stress

The district contributes $400/monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.

 

 

Pay Grade: Paraprofessional, Pay Grade 3, 187 Days

 

Minimum:  $14.31

Midpoint:   $17.24
