Custodian (Castlevale Head Start) at EPIC Early Learning

EPIC Early Learning is seeking a reliable and dedicated Custodian to join our team. As a well-established private, nonprofit organization serving children and families in Central Washington for over 45 years, EPIC is committed to providing high-quality early childhood education and support services. The Head Start Custodian plays a vital role in ensuring that our learning environment is clean, safe, and welcoming for children, families, and staff.

In this position, you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in all facilities, following health and safety guidelines to ensure a healthy environment for children and educators. Your contributions will help create a positive atmosphere for learning and play.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular cleaning and sanitation duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom cleaning
• Set up and take down furniture and equipment for classrooms and events as needed
• Stock and maintain supplies in restrooms and common areas
• Ensure that all cleaning equipment and supplies are used and maintained properly
• Perform minor maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs and minor repairs as applicable
• Monitor the facility for safety issues and report any repairs or maintenance needs to the Custodial Services supervisor
• Assist with outdoor maintenance and upkeep of playgrounds and other outdoor facilities
• Support the implementation of health and safety policies in all areas of operations
• Respect and promote a culture of inclusion and equity among all staff, parents, and children
• Be committed to characterizing a culture of safety within our centers, playgrounds, buses and anywhere that children may be present. Be familiar with and encourage EPICs culture of “Speak Up, Speak Out”.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Experience in custodial or janitorial work preferred
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety practices
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
• Basic understanding of health and safety regulations related to cleaning
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment
• Good communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff and children
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Pay Level: $17.30 to $17.82 per Hour (9 month position)

Conditions of Employment:

1. Prior to employment, complete a pre-employment drug screen, TB skin test by an EPIC approved healthcare provider at no cost to the employee.
2. Pre-employment basic physical by an EPIC healthcare provider (obtain within (30) days of employment and no cost to the employee).
3. Must pass an initial and periodic background check through the Washington State Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF).
4. Provide proof of MMR vaccination and/ or resistance to Measles, Mumps & Rubella.
5. Current Food Handlers card (obtain the training within 30 days of employment).
6. Current First Aid/CPR card (obtain within 30 days of employment).
7. Complete Childcare Basics 30 hours STARS training within 3 months of hire
8. Meet the minimum education requirements within the timeframe as stated in the performance standards.
9. Complete Child Abuse and Neglect training and all other mandated training.
10. CEO Approval.
