Inspections in building construction, electrical, plumbing or mechanical installations.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Certificate of Competency as General Contractor, Master Contractor, or Contractor depending on discipline.
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
-Fundamentals of Code Enforcement certification by the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE)
-Certified Construction Manager, LEED Green Associate Certification, Concrete Certification or HVAC, Plumbing and/or Electrical Certification (depending on area of assignment)
-Fire Safety Inspector
-OSHA Certification
-Fluent in Spanish, Creole, other languages (Speak, read and write) [*Excluding English]
-ICC Energy Code certification
-Experience with Virtual Plan Review software
Position Duties
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
DEPENDING ON AREA OF ASSIGNMENT, duties may include any/all of the following:
This is technical work in the enforcement of Chapter 9 Contractors of the Broward County Code of Ordinances.
Performs building inspections on all types of structures.
Performs building plan review on site.
Investigates fraud complaints against licensed/unlicensed contractors and tree trimmers.
Enforces licensing requirements for industries regulated by Broward County.
Investigates violations of, and enforces the provisions of Florida Senate Statute 489, and Broward County Code of Ordinances Chapter 9 (Contractors).
Generates and processes complaint case files.
Attends and testifies in administrative, and criminal court hearings.
Participates with various local law enforcement agencies, State Insurance Fraud Investigators, and the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation in undercover sting operations against unlicensed contractors.
Attends, presents, and prosecutes cases against licensed contractors before various Licensing Boards.
Assists other agency sections as needed to provide expertise regarding licensing, and other pertinent local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Negotiates reimbursement of money from licensed/unlicensed respondents to complainants, holds funds as needed, and disburses with generated releases of lien and/or prosecution.
Performs administrative work such as inspection resulting, uploading photos of construction and violations, e-mail, phone calls, attending work related meetings, and providing customer service.
Performs code enforcement duties.
Inspects and signs building permits cards.
Enters time and activity in computer for daily activities and for payroll.
Performs related work as assigned

This is technical work in the enforcement of the Florida Building Code.
Under the general supervision of the Building Official or high level administrator, the incumbent performs the following work:
1) Conducts inspections for compliance with codes and regulations governing mechanical installations;
2) Observes progress during various states of construction for possible defects and violations that must be corrected;
3) Reviews code standards and departmental regulations and obtains compliance with codes;
4) Reviews and checks blueprints, plans, complex calculations and sketches associated with a permit in relation to the actual construction, alteration or repair;
5) Confers with contractors, engineers, architects, property owners and other interested parties, answer questions and explain building codes and regulations;
6) Prepare and maintain records of plans, plan reviews, inspections, letters and reports prepared in connection with building permits;
7) Attends meetings and conferences concerned with building code enforcement;
8) Performs other related work. Work is performed with considerable independence within established codes, regulations and technical guidelines

Physical Demands
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
