OVERVIEW
This position is located in the Smithsonian Libraries and Archives (SLA). The SLA is the world's largest museum library and archives system and provides authoritative information and innovative services for Smithsonian researchers and curators, as well as scholars and the public worldwide.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position's primary purpose is to support SLA's rights and reproductions program and to assist with the management of digital assets and primary digital collection objects. This includes managing and coordinating reproduction rights and permissions for photographic images, media, and digital assets. In addition, the position negotiates for copyright permissions or non-exclusive licenses for copyrighted works in the collection that support pan-institutional programs and goals.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
One year of specialized experience related to rights and reproductions policies and research.
- Knowledge of copyright law sufficient to conduct research and assist in the review and evaluation of material usage and permissions granted to others.
- Knowledge of Digital Asset Management (DAMS) and the organization, preservation, and accessibility of an institution's digital content, sufficient to fulfill SLA and external digital asset access and use requests using SLA's digital assets, and to assist DAMS users.
- Skill to update records and digital files in collection information and digital management systems to allow digital assets and data to be easily retrieved.
- Skill to write in a clear, concise, and organized manner, and to tailor writing style and content to suit the needs and understanding of the target audience.
