Job Type: Full-time, Non-exempt
Work Hours: Shifts are 12 hour shifts. Assigned days and/or shift can be changed according to staffing needs. Must be available evenings, holidays, and weekends as required, and also includes overtime.
Work Setting: In-person and Field Service Area
Location: Employee may be assigned to a base office in Corporate Office, El Segundo, Orange, Carpinteria, or Mission Hills
Travel: Required to travel by personal auto or air to meeting sites and other locations.
Summary of Functions:
The Family Care Specialist is Responsible for representing OneLegacy to the potential donor’s Authorizing Party and family. Works in collaboration with the hospital treatment team to develop a timely and sensitive approach plan. The Family Care Specialist approaches the Authorizing Party and family for organ, eye, and tissue authorization, providing support and information while maintaining a position of dual advocacy to donor family and hospital staff. Acts as a liaison between hospital staff and OneLegacy.

Essential Job Functions:
Family Care and Authorization:
- Work in partnership with the hospital staff and OneLegacy to ensure that the Authorizing Party is identified per UAGA guidelines.
- Collaborate with the hospital care team and OneLegacy staff through frequent huddles to ensure the Authorizing Party is presented the opportunity for donation in the most appropriate manner.
- Discuss the elements of authorization with Authorizing Party and/or family members of potential donors.
- Obtain authorization for donation per UAGA and verify the medical-legal documentation necessary for organ recovery is completed according to OneLegacy policies and procedures.
- Work with hospital and OneLegacy staff to obtain administrative authorization for donation when appropriate.
- Support the donor family through the donation process including any internal or external resources.
- Proficiently and accurately enter data into Digital Donor.
- Complete Donor Medical and Social History Questionnaire (DMSHQ) and obtain any follow-up information required.
Referral Response and Authorization:
- Respond promptly and appropriately to potential donor referrals to assess family dynamics, donor suitability and to enhance the referral and authorization process.
- Review donor suitability with Referral Management team, inform hospital staff of outcome and create plan to follow.
- Collaborate with the hospital staff to determine and locate the Authorizing Party.
- Acts as a liaison between hospital staff and patient’s family.
- Proficiently and accurately enter data into Digital Donor.
- Performs potential donor evaluation on-sites when requested by Clinical Resource Specialists.
Professional Education:
- Provide education to hospital staff on the benefits of organ and tissue donation and services provided by OneLegacy to grieving families.
- Participate in public education forums as requested.
- Provide educational materials (e.g. placards, phone stickers, newsletters) to appropriate hospital units.
- Provide education to hospital staff about authorization and family care process.
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
Education: Four (4) year Bachelor’s degree or one (1) year applicable OPO (organ procurement organization) experience. Documented education in grief counseling required
Experience: Customer service; bilingual preferred.
Certification/License:OneLegacy requires employees to maintain a current California driver’s license and current vehicle insurance based on California minimum insurance coverage standards.
Salary Range: $59,150 - $70,525
