Seattle Public Utilities’ (SPU) has an exciting 2-year Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) opportunity for a Land Survey Field Technician (Civil Engineering Specialist, Assistant II) to join the Project Delivery and Engineering Team. This position will provide project support to Capital Improvement Projects in the form of survey mapping, right of way and property delineation, easement interpretation and creation, and general measurements needed to establish line and grade on utilities throughout the City.

This position reports to the Chief Surveyor.
This Term Limited Temporary (TLT) opportunity is fully benefited, is expected to last up to 2-years in duration and is open to all eligible and qualified candidates.

Position Duties
Primary Responsibilities for this 2-year TLT Civil Engineer Specialist Assistant:
Perform topographic, control, boundary, construction layout, monitoring, and deformation surveys.
Locate city infrastructure, including invert elevations, retention tanks, power systems, private utilities, and roadway features.
Maintain and update pertinent survey data and equipment and calculate and draft survey information with Autodesk Civil 3D and other surveying software.
Responsible for following Seattle Public Utilities procedures and standards for gathering Land Survey Field data using total stations, GPS, and other survey equipment.
Work independently as well as part of a Survey team.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two (2) years college level coursework in engineering and construction technology OR equivalent Land Surveying work experience.
License: At the time of appointment must hold a valid Washington State Driver License.
Desired Qualifications include:
- Associate's Degree or higher in Land Surveying or related degree.
- Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) certification.
- Documented training or certification in land surveying field operations.
- Ability to manipulate field data with land surveying software.
- Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and the public.
- Work within and contribute to the Race and Social Justice goals of Seattle Public Utilities.

The full salary range for this position is $46.81 per hour - $54.65 per hour.
Workplace Environment:
Work is typically performed in a field environment
Work Schedule is Monday through Friday; 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
- May be required to lift 50 pounds, stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time while conducting surveys
- Required to travel within the state for continuous periods up to 2 weeks in length up to 6 times a year, though typically travel will be 1 week in duration 4 to 5 times a year
- May require entry into confined spaces and working from heights
