As an art instructor at Simms Street Recreation Center, you will help student artists discover and explore their creative side, meet new people, and grow their love for different mediums. POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager, this position is responsible for planning, preparing, and teaching students with varying abilities how to use the raw materials properly, encouraging students to show creativity and individuality with their artwork. The Art Instructor must be dependable and enjoy working with children and adults.

Position Duties

• Minimum hiring age: 18.
• Responsible for planning and implementing class projects, allowing for varying skill levels.
• Prepare examples of new projects or techniques and present them to students.
• Ensure raw materials and supplies are available and communicate to the Coordinator when we need to purchase supplies.
• Keep equipment clean and ensure it is in good working order.
• Provide a safe learning environment and enforce safety rules and program rules.
• Keep the art room clean and chemicals and hazardous chemicals locked in a cabinet.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or completion of GED.
• Two (2) years of previous experience in ceramics and other specialized art forms.
• Previous teaching experience preferred.

LICENSES CERTIFICATES:

CPR/AED and first aid certifications are encouraged.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT:

Must demonstrate proper technique, safety knowledge, and use of all art equipment.

Other Qualifications

95% of the work is performed indoors, in a studio environment with frequent interruptions and distractions. Must be able to work in a noisy environment with various temperatures.
