JOB SUMMARY:
Shamrock Metals is seeking a highly skilled Metal Detailer to act as a key link between design and production. This role involves creating detailed, fabrication-ready shop drawings and reviewing architectural and customer-supplied drawings for manufacturability. The ideal candidate will optimize nesting layouts, maintain part labeling strategies, and ensure all drawing packages are accurate, clear, and aligned with production capabilities. You will facilitate a smooth handoff to the shop floor with minimal rework or interpretation needed.
You will collaborate with estimators, project managers, and customer detailing teams to ensure each drawing package is complete, coordinated, and fabrication-ready. All dimensions, material callouts, tolerances, and connection details are clearly defined to support uninterrupted downstream execution. This role may also involve direct communication with clients to provide fabrication guidance, suggest value-engineered options, and ensure that the design intent aligns with manufacturing realities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drawing Development, Review and Detailing
- Interpret architectural and customer-provided drawings to create precise, fabrication-ready shop drawings.
- Apply markups to customer drawings as necessary to comply with fabrication standards and internal production requirements.
- Assess drawing packages for manufacturability, weld access, tolerances, and fastening logic.
- Ensure all drawings follow internal standards, Shamrock fabrication methods, are CNC compatible, and optimize material use.
- Responsible for maintaining the integrity of shop drawings files.
Manufacturing Optimization
- Coordinate with estimating to verify labor assumptions (welding, polishing, cutting runtimes, shear, fixturing)
- Working knowledge of standard material sizes, thicknesses, and profiles commonly available from suppliers.
- Recommend alternate fastening, welding, or forming strategies to improve throughput and reduce cost.
- Alert the team when drawings conflict with Shamrock’s fabrication standards and submit redlines or RFIs as needed.
CNC and Nesting Strategy
- Prepare, review, or optimize CNC-ready part files and nesting layouts by utilizing available stock lengths and remnant strategies.
- Collaborate with the programming team to improve yield, minimize drop, and maintain traceability.
Shop Support and Schedule Alignment
- Work with production and quality teams to set clear part labeling methods that support tracking and assembly.
- Partner with operations and purchasing to align BOMs, cut sheets, and material types with job costing systems..
- Join customer scope review meetings as needed.
- Lead or support handoff meetings between design and the shop floor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in architectural metals, custom fabrication, or miscellaneous metals.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor.
- Ability to read blueprints and architectural drawings
- Experience in Bluebeam, Excel, and PDF markup tools.
- Strong knowledge of material behavior (aluminum, stainless steel, brass) and architectural finish standards.
- Experience interpreting architectural specs, shop tolerances, bend deductions, and installation intent.
- High attention to detail with the ability to communicate intent through drawings
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team to coordinate multiple projects running simultaneously
Preferred:
- Experience in CNC programming and nesting software.
- Familiarity with the decorative architectural metals industry, storefronts, decorative cladding, and custom ornamental metalwork.
