PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Receiving Team Lead oversees the daily operations of the receiving department, ensuring timely, accurate, and safe handling of incoming materials and products. This role coordinates team activities, verifies shipments, maintains accurate inventory records, and works closely with purchasing, production, and quality control to support manufacturing needs. As part of a family-operated facility, the Team Lead is expected to foster a collaborative environment, lead by example, and support a culture of teamwork, integrity, and accountability.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily workflow of the receiving team, including assigning tasks, monitoring productivity, and ensuring adherence to safety procedures.
  • Inspect and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, bills of landing, and packing slips for accuracy in quantity, quality, and specifications.
  • Oversee proper unloading, sorting, labeling, and storage of incoming materials and supplies.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the inventory management system.
  • Communicate discrepancies or damaged goods to Purchasing and Quality Control for resolution.
  • Collaborate with Production and Scheduling to ensure materials are available when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free receiving area in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Train, coach, and mentor receiving staff on procedures, equipment operation, and safety practices.
  • Coordinate with carriers, drivers, and vendors for efficient delivery and scheduling.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment as needed.
  • Assist in cycle counts, annual physical inventories, and inventory reconciliation processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency, reduce errors, and improve accuracy in receiving operations.


Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework in logistics, supply chain, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of warehouse or receiving experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to lead and motivate a small team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in inventory management systems and basic computer applications (Excel, Word, ERP systems).
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Forklift certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs independently and perform team lifts for heavier loads (up to 100 lbs).
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Tolerance to work in varying temperature conditions depending on season and facility layout.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking in warehouse settings.


Work Environment:

  • This position operates in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to forklifts, moving equipment, and occasional noise, dust, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Standard schedule is full-time, Monday–Friday, with occasional overtime or Saturday work as needed.
