We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Director of Tax to lead and oversee the full scope of our tax function. This leadership role is responsible for driving tax planning, compliance, and strategic initiatives with a strong emphasis on partnership taxation and REIT compliance across the private wealth, asset management, and real estate sectors. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, leadership acumen, and a proactive approach to managing complex tax matters across a diverse portfolio of investments and legal entities. This leader will be responsible for building and developing a high-performing tax department, establishing best practices, and scaling processes to support the firm’s growth and diverse portfolio of investments. The Senior Director of Tax will play a key role in shaping tax strategy, guiding executive leadership on tax implications, and positioning the organization for long-term success.
What you have already achieved: (Requirements)
- Minimum 10 years of progressive tax experience, with deep expertise in partnership taxation and REIT compliance.
- Strong background in private wealth, asset management, and/or real estate industries strongly preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state tax laws related to complex entity structures and real estate investments.
- Proven ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-tax professionals.
- CPA or JD/LL.M. in Taxation required; Master’s in Taxation is a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership and team development experience with a track record of building high-performing teams.
- Exceptional integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Ability to work under pressure in tight deadline-driven environments.
What you are great at: (Responsibilities)
- Leading all aspects of federal, state, and local tax compliance, reporting, and strategy for the organization.
- Provide technical guidance and manage the preparation and review of complex partnership tax returns, including tiered partnerships.
- Ensuring compliance with all REIT requirements, including quarterly income/asset testing, distribution compliance, and shareholder reporting.
- Designing and executing proactive tax strategies to optimize efficiency across funds, private wealth structures, and real estate investments.
- Advising on tax-efficient structuring and formation of new funds, LLCs, and partnerships to support business growth and minimize risk.
- Liaise with external tax advisors, auditors, and legal counsel to ensure accuracy and efficiency in tax matters.
- Acting as the primary liaison with external advisors, auditors, and legal counsel to drive accuracy and efficiency in tax matters.
- Overseeing investor communications related to Schedule K-1s, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional responses.
- Staying ahead of evolving tax laws and implementing timely updates across the organization.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure alignment of tax strategies with business objectives.
