Potential reduction hours due to Wednesday early release, early dismissals for parent conferences, holidays, and last day of school; reduction hours subject to change. Job assignment and/or building assignment are subject to change based on program needs determined by the district.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To assist the special education teacher in maintaining necessary records
Undertake with the timely submission of IEPs and progress reports and documentation of provision of services related to an IEP
Assist in daily hygiene activities, including personal care (toileting, grooming etc.) for students with disabilities, if needed
Supervise students in the cafeteria, classroom, on school grounds and in the community as needed
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
Must have regular and consistent attendance
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
Must possess valid first aid and CPR cards (or obtain upon employment) and be willing to keep cards current
Must possess valid CPI training (or obtain upon employment)
Previous experience or training in working with students with disabilities preferred
Must have physical ability to lift, position and/or transfer students (with assistance as may be required) up to 21 years of age
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teachers, parents and students with disabilities
Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and be able to project a positive, friendly and caring attitude toward others
Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in activities and responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher
Demonstrated ability to work independently under the direction of the classroom teacher, while accepting direction and constructive criticism
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically
Demonstrated ability to work with student records and data collection
Ability to effectively supervise students in all school areas
Willingness to participate in classroom team meetings, in-service offerings and local workshops
Demonstrated ability to use proper grammar and spelling in written and oral communication and be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to use multiple communication systems such as email, computers, document readers, and smart boards
Neat, clean personal appearance and personal traits that make him/her a good role model for students; work apparel should be appropriate for a professional and safe work environment
EDUCATION:
Be at least eighteen years of age, hold a high school diploma and/or equivalent, AND must meet at least one of the following options:
hold an AA degree or higher from an accredited college or university; OR
have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits – all at a 100 level or above at an accredited college or university; OR
received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment OR
have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
Must complete training on the Fundamental Course of Study within the timelines described in RCW 28A.413.070 in years that the program is funded by the legislature
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
