Caldwell University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director of Advisement and Academic Support. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Academic Support Services, the Assistant Director of Advisement and Academic Support will be responsible for providing academic advisement and academic support to various student populations and coordinating retention efforts for students who are academically at risk. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Advising/Academic Support: 

  • Advise students about academic and graduation requirements and appropriate course selection. Perform degree audits. Maintain systematic and frequent contact with advisees.

  • Disseminate information to students on university policies and procedures, registration deadlines, academic probation warnings, etc. 

  • Comply with FERPA guidelines and policies for student account information and releases

  • Maintain accurate records of interactions with students

  • Train and supervise faculty advisors. Serves as a resource for faculty and staff for questions and training on advisement.

  • Serve as liaison and foster relationships with other advisors, faculty, offices, and departments. Refers students to the appropriate offices for counseling, financial assistance, etc.

  • Develop advising materials and presentations for events such as orientation. Assist with developing and providing advisement training for faculty. 

  • Stay informed of changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, university-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates.

  • Engage in professional development activities including, but not limited to maintaining memberships in professional organizations, attending conferences and workshops, and campus training sessions. Stay current with technology.

  • Supervise peer advisors,advisors, graduate interns, and academic coaches.

  • Serve as liaison for the athletics department and faculty in lieu of an athletic advisor.

  • Assist with coordination of the faculty training for FS189 course and be a resource to faculty for First Year Seminar. 

  • Assist with planning and execution of advising events. 

  • Assist with EAB/Navigate administrative duties. Including data analyses, student campaigns, and documentation of student concerns.

Tutoring/Writing Center:

  • Oversee tutoring coordinator and serve as a backup in the event that they are not available.

  • Provide feedback to tutors and supervision sessions in collaboration with the tutoring coordinator. 

  • Create and provide workshops, training, and events for faculty, staff, and students (for Writing Center and for subject tutors). 

  • Create and analyze data and reports on tutoring and the Writing Center. 

  • Collaborate with faculty on writing initiatives and tutor’s professional development. 

Retention of Academically at-risk Students

  • Coordinate and supervise the Academic Recovery program and advise students at risk.

  • Coordinate and supervise the NEXUS program and related activities; advise/coach students within the program.

  • Coordinate and participate in other retention efforts of at-risk students as identified by the University.

  • Chair advising committee.

  • Monitor academic progress and assist in course selection for students.

Master’s degree in a related field plus 1-2 years of effective experience is required. Excellent computer skills. Google Suites experience is required.
