Primary Purpose Provides instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher or building administrator. Assists in preparing, conducting and managing of classroom activities. The teacher assistant position may be assigned to a particular classroom, or work within several different classrooms helping students.
Qualifications Profile
Must have obtained a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have at least one of the following:
Associates Degree from an accredited institution,
At least 48 college credit hours from an accredited institution, or
Pass the State Para-educator test
Pass a background check
Pass a TB skin-test and basic physical
Valid state-issued driver’s license or state-issued ID
Some experience working with children
Essential Job Functions
Duties/Responsibilities: Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
May be asked to sub for a teacher in a classroom
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Comply with all district policies, rules, and regulations.
Other duties as assigned.

Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics

Complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by the supervisor.
Meet all safety requirements as directed by USD 445 and building Principal.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and other Supervisors.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Requires the ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and in stressful situations.
Requires the ability to frequently stand for prolonged periods of time.
Requires the ability to walk frequently.
Requires the ability to use standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment for prolonged periods of time.
Requires the ability to frequently use repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding and mouse use.
Requires the ability to frequently kneel/squat, bend/stoop, push/pull, twist, or reach.
Requires the ability to frequently lift and carry items 25 lbs. or less. Periodically up to 50 lbs.
Requires the ability to work and concentrate in noisy and crowded environments.
Requires the ability to work with frequent interruptions.
Requires timeliness and regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
May be exposed to communicable diseases.
Equipment Uses standard school equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements Limited travels to other district buildings and communities/districts for professional meetings as required.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Direct Supervisor: Building Principal
Starting Pay: $13.30/hour. May be modified based on education or experience.
Benefits: Full-time position, qualifying for district benefits.
Work Schedule: Follows school calendar and is 173 days total.
