SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (SLP)
JOB GOAL
To provide direct or consultative services to students with identified disabilities related to speech and/or language in order to derive full benefit from the district’s educational programs.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Arizona Standard Speech-Language Certification
- MA in Speech/Language Pathology
- Certification of Clinical Competence
- Arizona Department of Health Speech-Language Pathologist Licensure
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring students with suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
- Conducts a thorough screening, assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, and language impairments; interprets results to parents and teachers and writes appropriate recommendations and reports.
- Develops, implements, and monitors IEPs for students eligible for speech and language services.
- Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community, as
- Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student's needs and correct existing speech and/or language dysfunction.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.
- Provides information and support to parents and families when appropriate.
- Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech services.
- Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school provided speech services.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and community members.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls and use a keyboard or keypad. The employee occasionally is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk or sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May be required to lift students weighing up to 60 pounds. May be required to travel to perform work functions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus and monitor students on the periphery.

The employee regularly works indoors.
