The Bernard Group is looking for a Production Supervisor to join our team. You’ll be part of a talented group that collaborates to deliver world class products to our customers. You will be responsible for handling various leadership functions, including supervising, mentoring and coaching employees working in the Bindery production area. The Production Supervisor, with the help of the Production Lead, trains new and existing employees on the most efficient and effective methods of machine set-up, inventory set-up, and process flow for sorting, cutting, gluing, and other processes associated with the binding of printed material. You will also be responsible for the overall effectiveness of his or her team members which includes: managing variable costs such as direct labor and materials utilized, as well as reducing scrap and the need for re-work. You will identify the need for additional resources, human capital or machinery, and creates the cost/benefit analysis. This role oversees the Production Leads’ efforts in learning the new equipment, as the subject matter expert, for training purposes. This position handles various functions such as performance reviews, staff development, employee engagement, scheduling labor, and addressing any necessary disciplinary actions as required.
Shift available: Sunday - Tuesday 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM (rotating 4 month schedule, occasional Saturday's)
A variety of these traits will help land you this job if you have:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 2-5 years experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 2 years experience in the printing industry in a production leadership capacity
- OSHA 10 Hour certification a plus
On top of that you must:
- effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Have strong interpersonal skills including demonstrated listening skills and the ability to present ideas and thoughts concisely and effectively both internally and outside the organization
- be technically savvy, being proficient in or ready to learn Gmail, Google Docs, Excel, TBG Systems, various software and hardware
- stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and perform long hours of work operating equipment
- be able to lift print media and substrate weighing up to 50 pounds
- have the ability to bend, twist, push, pull, climb, squat, and kneel
- perform repeated motions with wrists, hands, and gripping
- operate machinery and/or power tools
- check color quality of printed materials
- be able to read a ruler to 1/16th of an inch
- move around the plan area repeatedly throughout the day
In this position, you will:
- motivate, mentor, coach and train employees for professional development, employee engagement, and the creation of a safe and inclusive environment
- set high performance expectations and provide feedback, both positive and constructive to ensure those expectations are met
- work closely with Production and Assembly Leads, as well as other production areas’ leadership, in prioritizing and directing department work flow
- support safe environment, driving towards 0 OSHA recordables
- maintain high quality standards
- ensure assembly and machine throughput quality and integrity through continuous monitoring of departmental processes in conjunction with the Production or Assembly Lead
- oversee the maintenance of appropriate levels of supplies to meet production requirements
- monitor issues and receipts for work orders in conjunction with the Production or Assembly Lead
- establish open lines of communication with the production floor
- represent corporate policy and communicate to employees as required
- ensure training and skills matrix are in compliance with training policy
- work toward continuous improvement
- monitor efficiency and productivity and implement improvements
- implement cost reductions where possible
- drive improvements in material flow, including cell design and material delivery Interact with other support departments as required
- provide the cost/benefit analysis for the acquisition of new equipment and ensure Production Lead is trained on the equipment as the subject matter expert
- troubleshoot production problems to ensure productivity and quality standards are met
- perform miscellaneous projects and complete various tasks as requested by management

Compensation Range: $64,500.00 - $ 80,000.00 annually
*Range reflects our good-faith assessment of our hiring range for this role based on market conditions, experience level, and internal equity considerations.
