About the role
We’re seeking a highly skilled Senior Corporate Lawyer to join our Competition Regulation and Strategy team. This role will see you advising on complex regulatory matters, managing inquiries, investigations and litigation, and contributing to strategic initiatives across the business.
You’ll work closely with energy regulators including the ACCC and AER, providing expert legal advice primarily under the Competition and Consumer Act (CCA), and helping AGL navigate the evolving energy regulatory landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Manage regulatory investigations and litigation (including ACCC and AER inquiries, merger clearances, and information requests) and contribute to regulatory reviews and consultations through drafting submissions and presentations.
Provide legal and strategic advice primarily under the CCA: including reviewing business proposals for compliance, advising on compliant execution of AGL’s strategy, and identifying practices/proposals with potential CCA implications.
Deliver legal input on major strategic initiatives, including new products and acquisitions, and contribute to the development of AGL’s enterprise-wide energy regulatory strategy in collaboration across the business.
Acting as AGL’s liaison with energy regulators, coordinating regulatory submissions and responses (including to ACCC and AER).
About You
Legally qualified with more than 5 years of PQE, admitted to practice in Australia holding a current practicing certificate
Extensive knowledge of the CCA, ideally with knowledge of and practical experience in its application to the Australian energy industry and/or CCA litigation experience
Knowledge of the energy industry, including regulatory market frameworks, would be highly regarded
Highly developed interpersonal skills with high quality written and verbal communication skills
Strong and effective project management skills
Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills
