Job Description
Job Title: Irrigation Technician 1
Department: Sewailo Golf Course Maintenance
Job Summary: Operates, services, and repairs the varied components of the irrigation system
Duties & Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):
- Performs preventative maintenance on the irrigation system including the lake re-circulation system and water features.
- Determines wet and dry areas for adjustments of sprinkler heads.
- Properly inventories and stocks all irrigation parts and tools in order to minimize down time.
- Maintains working knowledge of pump station maintenance requirements.
- Operates, maintains and repairs a complex irrigation system, including leaks on the distribution lines, valve risers, electrical system, computer and irrigation control wire.
- Reports any serious irrigation breaks immediately to the Superintendent and maintains a daily log of completed repairs.
- Prioritizes irrigation breaks and uses time efficiently.
- Conducts monthly checks of all sprinkler heads on the entire golf facility.
- Routinely inspects irrigation system components to ensure system is operating properly.
- Responsible for winterization and blowout of irrigation system, including all water lines, valves and pump stations.
- Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of General knowledge of grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of Computerized systems and time clocks, electrical wiring and wire function, blue staking identification and trade-service support.
- Knowledge of Underground lawn sprinkler system repair and installation techniques and the design and redesign of irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of Mechanical maintenance including electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
- Knowledge in math sufficient to figure pipe flows, gallanages, pipe sizing, friction losses, run time, systems efficiency, spacing and head selections.
- Knowledge of Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and a willingness to learn.
- Repair and installation of underground lawn sprinkler systems.
- Ability to read blue prints.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED; Certificate from college or technical school; One year related experience with turfgrass irrigation systems and/or training; OR; Any combination of academic education, professional training or work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
AND
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
Background Check
- Must pass a background check and drug test.
- Funding and sensitivity of position will determine fingerprinting requirement.

Physical Requirement:

Environment:
- Regularly works in wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and faces risk of electrical shock. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; fumes or airborne particles. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. Occasionally works in extreme cold or heat (non-weather).
