The project accountant will be responsible for managing and monitoring various projects across the finance department, as well as various general accounting functions within the accounting division.


Position Duties

  • Develops comprehensive project management plans that outline approaches to manage scope and quality, costs, procurement, communications, risks, and stakeholders.

  • Identify stakeholders who could impact or be impacted by the project then analyzes and documents relevant information regarding their interests, involvement, and other potential contribution for project success.

  • Facilitates meetings between team members, leadership, stakeholders, vendors, and other relevant parties to move project objectives forward and ensure projects are proceeding according to plan.

  • Prepares reports, spreadsheets, worksheets, and special analyses for City and County management, other departments, auditors, and other entities as required. 

  • Creates and maintains project budgets, tracking expenses against allocated funds, and identifies potential overages. 

  • Works closely with project managers, team members, and other departments to gather financial information and address project-related concerns.

  • Monitors financial data, identifies trends, and provides insights to management to make informed decisions.

  • Performs month and year-end closing duties. Maintains files by reviewing and analyzing a variety of transactions for accuracy and assists in the preparation of year-end financial statements.

  • Assists with the preparation of year-end financial statements by reviewing, reconciling, compiling, and evaluating accounting records and preparing year-end work papers for individual funds. Prepares reconciliations for various City and County accounts. 

  • Assists in recommending and implementing modifications to systems, policies, and procedures. May conduct studies, analyses, and research on a wide variety of topics. Assists in researching and analyzing legal requirements impacting programs and services. 

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in finance, accounting, or related field - required

Experience

  • 2 years experience in accounting - required

  • 1 year project based experience - preferred

  • 1 year of governmental accounting preferred

Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however  education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (in addition to above requirements):

  • Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some weekend and holiday work required.

  • Work is performed at City/County work locations with the ability to perform some duties remotely in accordance with Broomfield’s remote work policy.

  • Physical demands are described as sedentary (exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or consistently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time).

  • Tasks may require use of a computer for several hours.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

  • The noise level in the environment is moderate.
