About the Department
Establish trusting relationships with persons at high risk of participating in group related gun violence and any populations involved in gun/group violence. The Credible Messenger leverages their life experiences to inform, guide, and motivate high-risk individuals to reduce and prevent group related violence. They provide crucial assessments to social services providers to ensure relevant services, support behavioral change and non-retaliatory actions among victims and perpetrators. Develop and maintain strong relationships with high-risk individuals, influential community members, and groups. Gain comprehensive knowledge of potential conflicts in hotspot communities. Engage with high-risk individuals and groups daily to discuss issues and provide guidance. Work proactively to intervene in situations where violence is likely, including possible retaliation. Identify and diffuse new and ongoing conflicts that could escalate to shootings or violence. Formulate and implement action plans to resolve conflicts. Track and evaluate the progress of high-risk individuals in the program. Provide regular updates and reports on the behavior and progress of participants. Ensure all documentation and records are up-to-date and accurately reflect client interactions, provide thorough assessments to social services providers to facilitate the acquisition of relevant services for high-risk individuals. Conduct research on the causes of shootings/homicides to assist in mediating situations and prevent retaliation. Accurately document all interactions with high-risk individuals and other clients daily.

Minimum Qualifications
Work requires providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation.
The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few easily identifiable choices. The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion.
Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
Ability to recognize meaning of common two- or three-syllable word.Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses.
