About the Department
Position Duties
The following duties indicate the general nature and level of work performed by the ADR Specialist. They are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications required of this position. Other duties may be required or assigned at any time.
- Familiarity with pending civil and criminal cases and other disputes which have been designated for mediation by the Judge, Magistrates or their designees.
- Conduct mediations
- Draft agreed entries resolving disputes
- Draft entries to schedule trials and pretrials (i.e. case management orders) where mediation has proved unsuccessful
- Conduct pretrials and case management conferences in civil and criminal cases
- Advise Housing Court Specialists and other staff on legal issues and procedure
- Research and advise on legal, procedural, and administrative matters as assigned
- Speak at community and other meetings regarding mediation program
- Participate in community education activities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Law degree from an accredited college or university
- Good standing with Ohio Supreme Court
- Experience in the general practice of law
- Training and experience in dispute resolution techniques
- Good interpersonal skills, knowledge of human behavior and knowledge of court system and procedure
- Familiarity with Housing Law, the Housing Court and Ohio Landlord/Tenant Act preferred

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse group of stakeholders such as judges, Court employees, lawyers, outside agencies, businesses, news media, and the public
- Able to maintain a flexible schedule
- Strong analytical and organizational skills and the ability to function at a high level within a large, complex organization
- Must have good time-management skills and be highly organized and detail-oriented
- 5.Ability to prioritize work, managing a variety of projects, simultaneously, in a high-pressure atmosphere – sometimes under severe time constraints
- Capability to work independently without daily direct supervision
- Participate in staff training and development as requested
- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information
