Qualifications
Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for assisting the Nurse Practitioner and Licensed Nurses in providing care to patients. Their duties include recording and updating medical histories and contact information in patient charts, scheduling patient appointments and performing standard care procedures such as checking vital signs or collecting lab samples. The CMA also provides supervisory, monitoring, and basic care functions for residents of the Center’s Enhanced Supported Housing, Supported Housing programs, and patients in the Outpatient Offices.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collection of and updating medical/psychiatric/psychological histories.
- Scheduling patient appointments and transportation
- Working with residential clients towards achievement of psychosocial goals through groups and activities. Documenting client progress on a daily basis.
- Is required to work in a cooperative effort with other residential staff to provide a safe, structured environment.
- May engage in patient care activities as delegated by a nurse practitioner or licensed registered nurse, including, but not limited to, vital sign measurement, simple dressing changes, or preparation of patient care areas.
- Maintains Medical Assistant Certification.
- Maintains Basic Life Support Certification
- Attends training and education classes deemed necessary by the supervising nurse practitioner.
- Assists in the scheduling and transportation for all residents.
- Follows all guidelines outlined in the CAREY Policies and Procedures Manual including Corporate Compliance Policies.
- Is expected to have regular and predictable attendance and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Other assigned duties by supervisor or management to meet the needs of the organization.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a High School Diploma along with completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program and a passing score of the state test certification.
Physical Requirement:
Walking: Must be able to walk around the facility to provide services to residents and respond quickly in the event of an emergency.
Lifting: Must be able to easily lift 25 lbs.
Kneeling: Must be able to kneel for 5 minutes and have the physical stamina to perform CPR as needed.
Sitting: Must be able to sit for 30 minutes without interruption.
Standing: Must be able to stand for at least one-hour multiple times per shift as needed. Bending: Must be able to bend down and pick up supplies as needed.
