Job Title: District Dyslexia Teacher Reports to: Executive Director of Curriclum and Instruction and Coordinator of Dyslexia Term: 187/EXEMPT School: Assigned Campus
Primary Purpose
Teach Take Flight and other dyslexia programs identified by the district. Apply knowledge of federal, state, and district procedures for students with dyslexia. Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure the success of all students.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Certified Academic Language Therapist or Certfied Academic Language Practitioner - must be in progress if not completed
Knowledge and Skills
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
Knowledge of dyslexia and related disorders
Ability to interpret data
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience
Successful teaching experience in the area assigned
Demonstrate success in using digital tools and resources
Demonstrate success working with peers or other adults
Demonstrate capacity to be self-directed, organized, and collaborative with all staff members
Use of Skyward, eduphoria! School Objects, iOS, Mac OS, email and file storage systems, and learning management systems (Google Drive, Google Classroom, etc.) preferred
Specialized Training
Certified Academic Language Therapist or Certified Academic Language Practitioner
Attend dyslexia training at the Region 17 ESC
Success Ed for 504
Other training as assigned
Major Responsibilities and Duties
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
Teaching
Teach the Take Flight program and/or other approved curriculum on assigned campus(es)
Plan effective lessons utilizing designated curriculum
Progress monitor students to ensure growth
Assessment
Utilize the dyslexia screener as assigned
Collect informal or anecdotal data concerning students from teachers and administrators
Collaborate with 504 and ARD committees
Reporting
Create, scan and file dyslexia documentation
Collect data from previous schools
Progress monitor students identified with dyslexia
Other Duties
Work collaboratively with other departments including, but not limited to, Curriculum & Instruction and Special Education on special projects
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education, & local board policy
Exhibit positive, professional attitude, attire, and communication at all times
Report to work on time daily and follow District attendance policies (Skyward Reporting)
Other duties as assigned by Coordinator or Director
