- Minimum of five years of experience in grounds and general maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Valid South Carolina commercial driver’s license (CDL including air brakes) is required.

- Maintains the school ball fields and surrounding grounds which involves cutting grass, painting lines, cleaning baselines, fertilizing and watering grass, etc.
- Drives a dump truck as needed to haul heavy equipment, tractors, trailers, fill dirt, rock, sand, and other equipment and materials.
- Operates motorgrader, trackhoe, backhoe, bulldozer, skid steer, tractors, etc. as needed to clear and level fields, roads, excavate trenches, install pipe, load dump trucks, grade and level land.
- Performs various groundskeeping duties such as cutting grass, planting and pruning shrubs, seeding/fertilizing and watering grounds, rolling sod, cutting and removing trees and debris, etc.
- Maintains and makes minor repairs to equipment used in daily activities.
- Install or repair concrete and asphalt parking lots, walks and paths. Install and repair playground equipment, chain link fencing, storm drainage lines, water and sewer pipe.
- Performs welding projects as assigned.
- Delivers various materials and equipment to school locations as assigned.
- Provides assistance in other maintenance areas as assigned which involves carpentry, plumbing, painting, roofing, small engine repair, and/or electrical maintenance.
- Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
- Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under close supervision performs routine grounds maintenance on district properties. Performs tasks such as maintaining athletic fields, cutting grass, operating dump truck and tractor equipment, etc. Performs light maintenance in other areas such as electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
No direct budgetary responsibility.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.

Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.

Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors with exposure to discomforting environmental conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, noise, dusts, and wetness. Frequent contact with pesticides and grounds maintenance chemicals. Local travel required; no overnight travel required.
