PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Hardware Specialist Locksmith is responsible for installation, maintenance and repair of locks, controlling devices on doors, windows and cabinets and overhead doors; to maintain master key system; to make duplicate keys; automatic gate devices; restroompartitions/partition hardware; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Graduate or GED required At least five years’ experience in the field Must be able to prepare bidding list Locksmith license preferred Experience and qualifications deemed appropriate and acceptable for the position Dependable, \honest, and cooperative Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: • Performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of automatic gates, doors, locks, door closers, hinges, emergency exit hardware, handicap devices and other door hardware within the district. • Performs preventative maintenance on all automatic gates, doors, locks, padlocks and related hardware on a regular basis and keeps records of all such maintenance. • Makes new keys, replaces lost or damaged keys and ensures that keys are issued to employees in a timely manner in accordance with policy. • Maintains hard-copy and computer records on the distributions of keys and lock combinations district wide. • Assists with specifying and designing automatic gates, key, lock and door hardware for construction and remodeling projects. • Purchases necessary parts and materials to complete work orders, maintains an inventory of supplies and completes work order paperwork. • Assists with construction and carpentry projects as needed. • Provide work direction and guidance to others as assigned. • Perform general clean-up at job site; observe and implement proper safety practices. • Work from blueprints, drawings and oral instruction as appropriate. • Read keys by codes and use key cutting machine; re-key locks to individual, sub-master and master keys. • Work outside of regular assigned work schedule to repair and/or replace needed facilities to include night and/or weekend duty as assigned. • Responsible to maintain and repair all door systems, locks, and all door hardware in the district. • Ensure that all work orders are successfully completed and submitted to office staff in a timely manner. • Maintain all restroom partition hardware and panels. • Maintain all automatic gates, motors, and components. • Maintain confidential records of keying systems in the district. • Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others. • Performs other related duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED: • District vehicle, two-way radio, key cutters, pin lab, lock pick, ladders, scaffold, small hand tools, handsaws, power tools, drills, drill press, grinder.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environment Factors: • Frequent district travel, bending, kneeling, and standing, heavy lifting and carrying, performing work using a ladder; working in hot and cold conditions
