Chronicle Books is looking for an Accounting Assistant to support the Finance Department by performing a variety of administrative and accounting tasks, including ensuring timely and accurate processing of financial transactions, supporting the monthly close processes, and assisting with reporting and audits. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to support a collaborative team in maintaining the financial health of Chronicle Books.


Key Responsibilities: The Accounting Assistant will process payable invoices, audit and process employee expense reports, assist in bimonthly payment runs, maintain digital records of all invoices, and respond to vendor inquiries and internal questions regarding payments. They will also post daily cash receipts, handle cash deposits and the daily cash log, send out weekly new invoices to customers, maintain accurate and organized financial records, support the preparation of internal reports, and provide general administrative support to the accounting team. Assisting with 1099 and 1042 form preparation, participating in cross-functional projects, and providing support during annual audits and tax season will also be part of this position.

  

Hiring Salary Range: $25.49/hr - $29.31/hr.  This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, an applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is eligible for our profit share plan.

Schedule: Employees at Chronicle Books will follow a regular hybrid schedule in our San Francisco office of at least three (3) in-office days per week and up to five (5) in-office days per week, depending on project and business needs. Requirements

Applicants should have an associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience. They will need 1–2 years of accounting or finance experience, a proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (with Oracle experience a plus), excellent organizational skills, and a strong attention to detail. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills, an ability to handle confidential information, and the capability of working independently and within a team environment will be needed. Prior experience in a publishing or creative industry is a plus.
