Position Title
Team Member - SCM
Purpose of the Position (Job Summary)
To support the procurement and inbound supply chain of thermal coal (both imported and Indian origin). Responsibilities include vendor and logistics coordination, customs clearance through CHA, documentation handling, market tracking, and ensuring timely availability of fuel at plant locations.
Key Individual Accountabilities
1. Procurement Operations:
· Assist in procurement of imported and Indian coal as per operational requirements.
· Float enquiries, collect and analyze offers, assist in negotiations, and prepare purchase orders.
· Understanding and capability to do cost calculation on useful heat value of fuel
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all procurement activities.
· Interface and close co-ordination with internal stake holders like Accounts Dept., Power Plant Dept., Stores Dept., Security Dept., Quality Assurance Dept., etc. on a regular basis for day to day affairs related to fuel procurement.
2. Vendor & Supplier Coordination:
· Engage with coal suppliers, traders, and transporters for execution of contracts.
· Support identification and onboarding of new vendors (domestic and overseas) to strengthen sourcing base.
3. Inbound Logistics Coordination:
· Coordinate with shipping agents, transporters, and port handling agencies for movement of coal.
· Monitor vessel arrivals, discharge status, weighbridge operations, and rake/truck dispatches to plants.
· Ensure timely placement of transport and execution of dispatch schedules to avoid stockouts.
4. CHA and Customs Clearance:
· Liaise with CHAs (Custom House Agents) for documentation, Bill of Entry filing, and customs clearance of imported coal.
· Coordinate with port authorities, shipping lines, and customs officials to ensure smooth clearance.
· Ensure accuracy and compliance of import documentation – invoices, packing lists, BL, COO, etc.
5. Documentation and Compliance:
· Maintain records for all procurement and import-related activities.
· Ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements including customs laws, GST, and environmental compliance.
6. Market Intelligence:
· Track market indices (e.g., ICI, HBA), currency fluctuations, and freight rates.
· Monitor Indian coal auction prices, availability, and logistics bottlenecks.
7. Cross-Functional Coordination:
· Work closely with Operations, Finance, Logistics, Stores, Quality Control, and Legal teams for end-to-end execution.
· Assist in invoice processing, payment tracking, and resolution of discrepancies with suppliers.

· Graduate in Engineering
· MBA in Supply Chain / Materials Management (preferred)
· 3–7 years of relevant experience in fuel procurement, preferably with exposure to coal imports and domestic sourcing.
· Experience in logistics, CHA coordination, and documentation for import clearance is essential.
