About the Role
This role is responsible for recruiting and managing one of the most valuable assets of our organization - our volunteers. We are seeking a Volunteer Site Coordinator whose personal calling resonates with OurCalling’s mission. The ministry of OurCalling depends heavily on volunteers to assist in delivering the daily services that we provide to our guests, such as meals and other resources. OurCalling is a greenhouse and a classroom for volunteers. A greenhouse provides a safe and controlled environment to cultivate a heart for individuals experiencing homelessness. A classroom provides a safe place to learn new materials and practice loving their neighbors as themselves. We're inviting them to learn from us and practice in the secure environment of OC, alongside OC staff. The person filling this role must be energetic, relational, comfortable working in a busy environment, able to communicate well, and respond to volunteers with God-honoring grace while remaining true to our mission and vision.
Requirements
- Ability to clearly communicate the message of the Gospel and the mission of OurCalling
- Experience in volunteering, volunteer recruitment/management, ministry, and/or non-profit ministry
- Passion for the mission of OurCalling and volunteerism
- Administrative skills and technical competencies to learn systems that support this function
- Detail-oriented, organized, flexible, self-starter, personable, dependable, relational

Specific Responsibilities
- Understand and communicate the mission, programs, distinctive characteristics, and impact of OurCalling
- Be familiar with and able to communicate the OurCalling Volunteer Policy and procedures.
- Conduct orientations to communicate the mission, safety procedures, and expectations to all volunteers.
- Represent OurCalling and recruit volunteers at events in the community at large.
- Maintain and manage a volunteer schedule that aligns with the operational needs.
- Be present for volunteers to offer guidance, support, and encouragement in their roles and build a sense of community.
- Maintain volunteer recognition and retention practices
- Manage Court-Mandated Community Service volunteers and the process.
- Assist with maintaining volunteer records, including hours served, contact info, and required documentation (e.g., waivers, non-disclosure agreements, etc.)
- Manage the Volunteer Database
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree, required - preference given to educational backgrounds with a focus on nonprofit and community engagement, ministry, theology, or volunteer management certification
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in any of the following: nonprofit volunteer management, administration, community relations and engagement, any form of public speaking, and/or hospitality
- Fluency in conversational Spanish, preferred
- Preferred: Experience with volunteer management software (e.g., VolunteerHub, Galaxy Digital, Salesforce, Virtuous Volunteer, or Better Impact)
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong written, verbal, and communication delivery skills with volunteers and various audiences
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution, demonstrating a high degree of professionalism, confidence, poise, and tact
- Ability to prioritize the importance of volunteers to the mission and vision of the ministry
- Must be able to understand all aspects of the ministry to assess and help assign volunteers to appropriate tasks within different departments, and answer volunteers’ questions
- Must be comfortable interacting with the population that the ministry serves, including those with addiction, mental illness challenges, and various criminal backgrounds
- Must demonstrate a “team player” and collaborative attitude; highly motivated for our ministry work, and caring for others; show ownership in areas of responsibility, and be a self-starter with a spirit of excellence; a track record and desire for professional growth; willing to help serve in other various areas of the ministry as needed
- This position will require Saturdays, and some evenings or Sundays as needed to recruit, welcome, or orient new volunteers
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to attend events off-site
