Position Status: Active

FTE: 100%

Agreement Dates: July 1- June 30 Annually

Report to: Director of Facilities and Operations

Department: Facilities

Pay Category: non-exempt

Pay Range: $25-$35 per hour

Pay Rate: hourly

Pay Schedule: Semi-monthly

Hours: 7:30am - 4pm, flexibility with department needs


San Francisco Day School  is seeking a dedicated and proactive Facilities & Events Support Technician to join our Facilities team. The Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency of our campus throughout the school day. The Technician will be the main support to the Program and Event Operations Lead. This is a highly visible position that requires a friendly demeanor, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to supporting a positive learning environment for our students, faculty, and staff.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Custodial and Janitorial Services:
    • Perform regular rounds throughout the school day to monitor and maintain the cleanliness of high-traffic areas, including hallways, lobbies, restrooms, common areas, classrooms, and offices.
    • Promptly address spills, messes, and other immediate cleaning needs.
    • Restock restrooms with paper products, soap, and other supplies as needed.
    • Empty trash receptacles and recycling bins throughout the day.
    • Clean and sanitize surfaces, fixtures, and touchpoints to maintain a hygienic environment.
    • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, and soap, and notify the Facilities Manager when it’s time to place an order.
    • Assist with the setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, and equipment for events, meetings, and daily activities.
    • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors as required.
    • Assist facilities with basic repairs and maintenance as needed. 
    • Assist with receiving and distributing deliveries.
    • Monitor and secure areas of the campus as instructed.
  • Event Support and Setup:
    • Assist with event setup as directed, including bringing food to event space, setting up tables, tablecloths, flowers, plates, and other necessary items.
    • Replenish event supplies (utensils, cups, drinks, food) items and maintain a tidy and refreshed appearance throughout the event
    • Maintain cleanliness by servicing garbage cans periodically during the event.
    • Ensure all entrances and exits are clear and accessible during the event.
    • Occasionally pick up event supplies from stores as needed—such as flowers, snacks, or pre-arranged orders I’ve coordinated.
    • Assist with clean up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and equipment after the event.
    • Tablecloth Management: Fold tablecloths neatly and maintain an accurate count of inventory. Ensure all clean tablecloths are folded and stored in an organized manner. Clearly label the total number available. Notify if the supply is low or if additional purchases are needed.
  • Safety and Security:
    • Adhere to all school safety protocols and procedures.
    • Be aware of and report any safety concerns, suspicious activity or security concerns.
    • Assist with emergency preparedness procedures as needed.
  • Customer Service and Communication:
    • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor when interacting with students, faculty, staff, parents, and visitors.
    • Communicate effectively with the Facilities Manager and other school personnel regarding any issues or needs.
    • Be responsive to requests and proactive in identifying areas for improvement.


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a custodial, janitorial, or similar facilities role, preferably in a school or similar institutional setting.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and carrying.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining cleanliness.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and fingerprinting required for working in a school environment.
  • Knowledge of basic safety procedures and first aid is a plus.
