To assist with environmental chemistry field research in wetland sites that we are monitoring as part of a project funded by the H2Ohio Wetlands Monitoring Program.

Position Duties
- Assist with collecting water and soil samples and measuring pH, dissolved oxygen concentration, turbidity, electrical conductivity, and water in the wetlands that we are monitoring. This will involve wearing knee-high boots or chest waders and navigating in challenging terrain that is often inundated, with thick sediments and dense vegetation, and a variety of insects present including mosquitoes, ticks, and bees.
- We provide boots, waders, insect protective jackets and hoods, and insect repellant.
- Must strictly and consistently practice all safety protocols and procedures established for this research project.
- At times, navigating in floating water craft such as kayaks, canoes, or john boats may be involved and water samples and measurements might involve the use of such craft.
- When not participating in field research, the research assistant might also conduct some lab research tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
- You must be available to work at least one weekday per week from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. If you are not available for this entire time period at least one weekday each week, please do not apply. Exceptions to this requirement are not possible because our trips involve travel in our research van off campus for this extended time period. So unless you can fully participate you are not eligible for this position.
- You must be committed to excellence in field research with careful attention to detail and the collection of highly accurate scientific data.
- Some prior experience doing environmental field research is preferred but not required.
- Students can be at any stage of their undergraduate degree program, including their first year.
