Controller

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  The Controller ensures compliance with accounting procedures and GAAP, overseeing all accounting activities including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, fixed assets, and inventories.

  1. Ensure all accounting procedures and record-keeping comply with business practices and GAAP.
  2. Supervise the accounting staff, develop goals, and establish priorities.
  3. Establish and maintain an effective system of internal controls for accounting functions.
  4. Ensure compliance with all government, state, and other funding sources’ requirements including reporting.
  5. Oversee the completion and management of financial reports and audits with government agencies and other outside funding sources.
  6. Ensure all agency bank account reconciliations are completed monthly.
  7. Provide financial reports, information, training, and assistance to management throughout the organization.
  8. Maintain accounting systems and records in accordance with department and management needs and retention standards.
  9. Participate in crossover training and act as a backup to all accounting staff daily duties.
  10. Perform work activities in conformance to Goodwill values (respect, integrity, compassion, stewardship, learning, teamwork and entrepreneurial spirit), immediately report any wrongdoing (unethical/improper conduct, fraud, fiscal mismanagement, etc.), embrace and support cultural diversity, and encourage and support others to do the same.
  11. Complete all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Bachelor degree in accounting/business administration, strong skills in accounting principles and procedures.

2. Work experience in business management/accounting required. Supervisory experience helpful.

3. Strong verbal, written and organization skills.

4. A well developed acumen for business.

5. Must have a valid drivers license issued by the State of Nebraska and meet insurance requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Ability to communicate in spoken conversation and have normal hearing for conversation and telephone use.

2. Ability to be independently mobile on all surfaces, to move safely about the work area.

3. Visual acuity, depth perception and field of vision within normal range.

4. Have the physical stamina to work at least eight (8) hours per day and be able to travel to sites, conferences, etc., via automobile, airplane, etc.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Demonstrated decision-making and problem solving abilities.

2. Ability to motivate, train and supervise employees.

3. Ability to get along and work with employees at all levels in the Agency.
