TITLE: K-3 Reading Tutor/Duty Aide

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of two years of college or 48 college credits, or a passing score of 457on the paraprofession praxis.
Additional training and /or experience in working with children in a school setting, either in the classroom or on a one-to-one basis is desirable.
Knowledge and skill in the teaching of reading including the ability to pronounce vowels, consonants, phrases, and words in a phonetically correct manner.
Familiarity with the academic challenges of economically and linguistically diverse students.
Ability to work with staff, students, and the public.
Ability to administer standardized and other diagnostic tests.
Computer knowledge and experience with word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, etc.
Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator.

JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.

To help kindergarten students improve their reading skills to enable them to reach their full potential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate with the regular classroom teacher and building administrator to determine the instructional needs of each student.
Support the reading curriculum used in the regular class.
Communicate with regular classroom teachers regarding student progress.
Work with students individually and in small groups to reteach and reinforce skills.
Prepare classroom for instructional activities and constructs learning materials.
Administer reading assessments to monitor student achievement.
Communicate with parents and families as directed by teacher or administrator.
Maintain accurate records as requested and required by the needs of federal, state, and local guidelines to track student progress.
Attend professional development workshops, building meetings, and district program meetings as needed.
Participate in the school as a regular part of the staff and accepts supervision and other duties as requested.
Maintain high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Has regular and predictable attendance.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs all other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a limited full time position scheduled to work 29 hours per a week during the school year. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 5 - $16.39 or $17.19 per hour depending on experience.

This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.

This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty.
