Description

The Director of Aftercare serves under the direct supervision of the Elementary Principal, executing responsibilities in alignment with the policies established by the Head of School and the Board of Trustees. This role requires a mature, compassionate leader who communicates effectively with both children and adults, fostering a nurturing and respectful environment. The ideal candidate consistently models professionalism, provides steady leadership, and serves as a Christ-centered example for students, families, and staff within the Aftercare program.

Requirements

Required Qualities, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Display a genuine love for the Lord Jesus Christ, wholeheartedly support the mission and values of CAK and demonstrate a sincere, outgoing desire to serve all those associated with CAK
  • Basic word processing, spreadsheet and database skills
  • Operate office technology, including the use of computers, iPads, and copiers/printers
  • Apply organizational procedures to maintain office efficiency
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Maintain working knowledge of the school's mission, philosophy, and daily operations
  • Work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and the wider community

Day-to-day Operation of Aftercare

  • The Director of Aftercare ensures the smooth daily operation of the program, providing supervision, oversight, and support for staff, students, and families.

Responsibilities to Staff

  • Assist and guide staff on day-to-day issues
  • Orient and support new staff in their assigned roles
  • Observe groups regularly and provide documented feedback as necessary to employees
  • Lead staff and team meetings
  • Prepare calendars and monthly reminders of activities; keep parents informed of policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the Elementary Administration regarding the hiring, retention, and assignment of staff
  • Build trust and confidence among staff members
  • Gather input from staff to regularly evaluate and strengthen the program

Responsibilities to Students

  • Provide guidance in areas of discipline, instruction, and evaluation
  • Create a nurturing environment that encourages growth and development
  • Set high yet attainable expectations for student behavior
  • Provide individual assistance when needed

Responsibilities to Parents and Community

  • Communicate regularly with parents through written or digital correspondence
  • Collaborate with Admissions to promote and market the program, particularly to new families
  • Meet individually or in groups with parents as requested
  • Foster mutual respect and partnership between school and home

General Administration

  • Attend school meetings as requested
  • Represent the Aftercare program at school-wide and administrative meetings as requested
  • Inform the Elementary Administration of all matters pertaining to the program, as needed
  • Plan with the facility manager and business office to maintain the building and grounds used by the program
  • Work closely with the Elementary Administration and other administrators to ensure alignment with school operations
  • Create schedules for staff and students that balance structured learning support with free time
  • Conduct regular safety audits of the program and recommend improvements
  • Participate in professional development opportunities as needed

Special Duties

  • Oversee Warrior Wednesday Care (beginning at 7:15 AM)
  • Arrange childcare options for teachers on professional learning and parent-teacher conference days 

Other Duties

  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Elementary Administration or Head of School

The Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) employee must be a spiritually sensitive individual who understands the school's mission and philosophy. The employee must also be a born-again Christian with spiritual maturity and the academic and leadership abilities necessary to teach God’s truth. Skills in effective communication with diverse individuals, the ability to handle confidential information appropriately, and maintaining a courteous, professional, and respectful attitude and integrity in all situations are prerequisites.
