About the Department
The Public Art Coordinator assists in the planning, coordination, and implementation of public art projects and programs. Responsibilities include supporting the development of public art initiatives, managing project documentation, liaising with artists and stakeholders, and providing administrative and logistical support to ensure compliance with program goals and procedures.
Position Duties
- Coordinates the planning and administration of public art initiatives, including artist selection, project timelines, and compliance with City policies.
- Supports implementation of the Public Art Master Plan and strategic objectives established by the Arts & Culture Commission.
- Serves as liaison among artists, City departments, contractors, and community members to facilitate collaborative arts projects.
- Develops and implements outreach and engagement strategies to promote participation in public art programs.
- Coordinates logistics for temporary exhibitions, public installations, and rotating art programs in City-managed spaces.
- Prepares and reviews contracts, scopes of work, and deliverables for artists, consultants, and vendors to ensure adherence to program requirements.
- Supports budget development and monitors project expenditures; prepares fiscal and programmatic reports as required.
- Maintains project documentation, updates art collections database, and tracks inventory of public artworks.
- Drafts and edits reports, promotional materials, meeting packets, and website and social media content related to public art programming.
- Researches and assists with grant applications; supports tracking of grant deliverables and funding cycles.
- Provides guidance to temporary, part-time, or volunteer staff on tasks related to public art project implementation.
- Represents the Arts & Culture Program at public events, community meetings, and in discussions with stakeholders.
- Responds to inquiries from the public and internal partners with professionalism and accuracy.
- Performs other non-essential duties as assigned. These may include marginal, incidental, or minimal tasks that can be redistributed if needed.
Minimum Qualifications
The following minimum qualifications are required to be met at the time of application.
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in arts, fine arts, art history, arts administration, cultural planning, public administration or a closely related field.
Experience:
Three years of full-time professional experience in public arts programs, including experience working with a regional artists’ community.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Examination Process:
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and pass the examination for this position to be eligible for hire. The examination will consist of a Training and Experience evaluation (T&E) weighted at 100%.

Appointment and Certification:
Appointments to positions in the City's Civil Service system are made on the basis of examination. Scores resulting from a competitive examination are used in determining a person's rank on an eligible register. The department may hire any of the persons referred. The names of those persons not hired may be considered when the next vacancy occurs, for as long as that register is viable.
