Position Summary
UDO Place Managers are responsible for keeping Uptown and Downtown Oakland clean, safe, and welcoming for all. This public-facing, outdoor role requires consistent walking, physical labor, and Radical Hospitality.
Place Managers walk 10–12 miles daily, lift to 100 lbs, and cover route-based assignments to sweep sidewalks, remove litter, clean bus stops, spot graffiti, assist pedestrians, and report safety concerns. They follow strict grooming and uniform policies, remain device-free while on duty, and engage with the community respectfully and professionally.
This role is ideal for someone who takes visible pride in their work, thrives outdoors in all weather, and supports the District Works mission of dignified public space care.

Minimum Qualifications
- 6+ months of experience in janitorial, street cleaning, hospitality, or maintenance roles
- Able to walk 10–12 miles daily and lift 75–100 lbs repeatedly
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Emotionally steady and professional in public-facing roles
- Familiar with basic tools: broom, dustpan, graffiti wipes, bags, buckets, etc.
- Can work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned
- Can use a smartphone or tablet for task logging, documentation, and photos
- No employment gaps over 6 months or short job stints under 3 months (unless explained)
- Committed to full uniform compliance and personal grooming standards

- Reports graffiti, hazards, or public issues promptly using digital tools

Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Uptown and Downtown Oakland neighborhoods

- Experience in business improvement districts, public infrastructure, or street cleaning
- Background in outdoor hospitality or public engagement
