Job Summary:  

Employee Health Nurse promotes health and safety to all employees by facilitating an Employee Health Program that includes disease detection, prevention, and treatment; following up employee illnesses and injuries; conducting employee health screenings; and promoting a safe work environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Recommends and evaluates procedures or policy statements relating to infection prevention and control within AGH.

· Maintains a knowledge base of current infection prevention and control information through peer networking, internet access, published literature and professional meetings.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH

  • Conducts new on-hire screenings and annual employee health      screenings to include health history, immunizations update, and drug      screenings.
  • Refers employees with identifiable limitations and/or health risks      to appropriate resources.
  • Offers health promotion incentives and educational materials.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure completion of all health      screenings.
  • Conducts surveillance and follow-up of employee exposures to      communicable diseases.
  • Plans, implements and conducts annual Flu Vaccine Program.
  • Plans and implements other vaccine programs, to include Tetanus and      MMR, as directed by APIC, OSHA,      CDC, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Conducts TB screening for all new employees, all other employees and      volunteers according to the hospital TB control plan and/or at least      annually. Conducts follow-up skin testing for all employee TB exposures.
  • Trends employee illnesses/injuries to identify safety and health      issues.
  • Plans, implements and conducts annual TB and blood borne pathogen      training to employees in required departments.
  • Provides education on an as-needed basis regarding hand washing and      isolation practices.
  • Strives to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.
  • Demonstrates awareness of an adherence to legal requirements      pertinent to employee health and safety.
  • Maintains employee health records.
  • Maintains summaries and written reports required for employee      illness/injury reporting.
  • Participates on hospital-wide committees at the request of executive      level management.
  • Provides concise data and tracking of all exposures.
  • Conducts new employee orientation in Employee Health.
  • Provides initial assessment of employee injuries and assures the      proper referrals are made with Workers Compensation physician practice.
  • Serves as manager/liaison on Workers Compensation cases, including interacting      with employee, insurance company and adjusters; providing information as      requested; collaborating with hospital’s designated third-party      administrator; consulting with Human Resources Department on position      physical demand analyses; other Workers Compensation functions as      identified and assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Performs other related duties incident to the work described herein and as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES:

· Working knowledge of New Mexico Workers’ Compensation.

· Excellent communication and organization skills.

· Strong computer skills; ability to work with data bases.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: 

Ø Education –Associates of Science in Nursing.

Ø Work Experience - Three years acute care experience.

Ø Training – Understanding of New Mexico Workers Compensation

Ø License/Certification – Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.
