About the Department
The Federal Work Study Program provides jobs for students at Black Hawk College demonstrating financial need. Eligible students typically work between 6 - 15 hours per week.
In order to qualify for the Federal Work Study Program, you must:
* Receive Financial Aid
* Be approved for Work Study by Financial Aid and Human Resources
* Current BHC student enrolled in 6 or more credit hours per semester
* Cumulative 2.0 GPA (per the Academic Progress Policy www.bhc.edu/academic-progress)
BHC students who don't meet the above eligibility requirements, may be eligible for non-Work Study positions. These positions are subject to budget limitations/availability of funds and are not always available.
Position Duties
The Kitchen is a food pantry that exists to feed BHC East Campus students in need – stocked consistently with nonperishable food and occasionally some toiletries. It is located on the East Campus in Building 1. In a partnership with River Bend Foodbank students can also receive perishable food, including fresh produce and frozen meat, twice a month. This work study position works in partnership with the BHE Police Department and the Counseling Department.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
* Helping unload truck from River Bend Food Bank delivery
* Stocking food pantry
* Keeping inventory of needed/wanted items
* Working with the pantry captain to order from River Bend
* Checking in students/employees utilizing the food pantry
* Ensuring new visitors complete a registration sheet
* Organizing the The Kitchen as needed following pantry dates
* Holding open pantry hours to allow for better access of non-perishable goods
* Assisting with any drives that are planned
* Ensuring that marketing is placed in appropriate places on campus and keeping related marketing up to date
* Other assigned duties
* Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

All majors welcome to apply.
* Current BHC student
* Customer Service/Ability to work with the public
Other skills/experience may be requested or specified by the department and/or hiring manager at BHC.
Must be able to:
* Maintain confidentiality
* Be sensitive to needs of those utilizing the pantry
* Be organized
* Be a self-started
* Able to work with limited supervision
* Ability to work a flexible schedule desired
