Santa Monica Seafood Co., is currently looking for an experienced Production Supervisor
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- General environmental health and Safety of the employees and the production environment, and working with the site EH&S Mngr, the objective is to become a zero-accident site.
- Monitor production to ensure that Quality, productivity, planned KPIs, and cost standards are maintained and improved.
- Maintain and continuously improve the Quality of our products and responsiveness to our customers’ needs as directed – institute Customer-centric philosophies
- Fulfill Customer orders with a world-class rate of 98.5% or higher – exceed Customer expectations via order fulfillment and product Quality.
- Maintain and enforce cGMP standards.
- Evaluate subordinate performance, communicate with employees, and provide recommendations/strategies for work performance improvement.
- Provide employee training to ensure that employees perform job responsibilities effectively.
- Provides leadership and direction for plant continuous improvement – identify Productivity Projects to optimize operating costs
- Production productivity and performance for the Department. This will include but not limited to the functions of: Receiving, Receiving inspection, preparing finished goods in accordance with SMS established standards and our valued Customer’s specifications, selecting the proper substitutions in the case of temporary out-of-stocks, optimizing product yields, preventing questionable product from being sent to customers, prioriting the usage of product based on remaining shelf life (FIFO), ensuring products are packaged correctly, handling products to minimize product damage/distress, communicating issues to other departments on a timely basis, controlling Work-In-Process inventory , processing products, picking and packing, handling secondary market product, ensuring department is clean, organized, and sanitary, maintaining production records , compiling regulatory-related records for compliance, making sure Production area and equipment are maintained and improved (with Maint Dept.), managing department and employee safety (familiar with Cal/OSHA regulations), developing KPIs/OGSMs and individual and team performance, including annual reviews, and new team member inductions and assessments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A self-motivated individual that can motivate, mentor, and train others.
- An associate's or bachelors is preferred.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving, organizational, and follow-through skills that can achieve results by working with and through others.
- Familiar with food safety and food handling issues/cGMPs; HACCP certification is a plus.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, with a strong command of the English language with good written and verbal communication skills
- High proficiency in all Microsoft Office software; experience with computer report generation,general computer database usage, and MRP/ERP Systems
- Strong decision-making skills and attention to detail
- Must be a self-starter/initiative developer and highly organized with polished presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities within the department.
- 1 to 3 years supervisory experience in food-processing or food packaging
- Knowledge of Seafood product preferred.
- Lean Manufacturing/6-Sigma and College Degree is highly desirable.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Capable of standing for extended periods, often 8-12 hours or more per shift.
- Work in a cold environment, typically around 35 degrees Fahrenheit
- Perform repetitive motions, including bending, reaching, and twisting
- Manual dexterity to handle seafood products and operate processing equipment
