Overview:

GDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a Firewall Administrator for a hybrid contract opportunity with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This position requires candidates to reside in Pennsylvania and work on-site in Harrisburg two days per week, with three days of remote work allowed. The schedule may be adjusted based on operational needs and managerial direction.

As a Firewall Administrator, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing secure, scalable network architectures across enterprise environments. This position plays a critical role in aligning network infrastructure with business objectives and security requirements. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of network security technologies, vendor-specific platforms, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and cybersecurity teams to deliver resilient and high-performing network solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and architect secure network infrastructures that align with organizational goals and security standards.

  • Evaluate, deploy, and manage firewall technologies, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and secure communication protocols.

  • Conduct network risk assessments, vulnerability analyses, and threat modeling to inform architectural decisions.

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and security teams to integrate network and security components effectively.

  • Lead incident response architecture planning and support post-incident reviews for continuous improvement.

  • Provide expert-level guidance on firewall technologies, network protocols, and industry best practices.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, standards, and operational procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience with network fundamentals including TCP/IP and subnetting.

  • 5+ years of experience with firewall technologies and architectures (e.g., stateful inspection, next-generation firewalls, Layer 7 filtering).

  • Strong proficiency in security protocols such as IPSec and SSL/TLS.

  • Hands-on experience with network monitoring and analysis tools including Wireshark and other network analyzers.

  • Proven experience working with IDS/IPS systems.

  • Proficient with command line interfaces and scripting.

  • Familiarity with log analysis and SIEM tools.

  • Must reside in the state of Pennsylvania.

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and compliance frameworks.

  • Experience with threat intelligence, attack surface reduction, and mitigation strategies.

  • Background in risk assessment and vulnerability management processes.

  • Experience contributing to incident response planning and execution.

  • Deep expertise with the following vendor technologies:

    • Palo Alto Networks

    • Check Point

    • VMware NSX-T

    • Zscaler
