About the Department
Carteret Community College (Morehead City, NC) is accepting applications for the Chairperson of our new Dental Assisting program. The Chair, Dental Assisting will provide instruction to Dental Assisting students, as well as serving in an administrative role to ensure the program meets the highest standards of quality and prepares students in their pursuit of Dental Assisting certification and successful careers in dental healthcare.

Minimum Salary: $61,764 per year
Position Duties
- Provide leadership, vision, planning, and supervision in the Dental Assisting program.
- Oversee and participate in recruitment, selective admissions, enrollment, advising, and retention development strategies, including program faculty participation in the MAPS (Mentoring, Advising, Planning for Success) Center.
- Promote a safe environment conducive to learning and maintain high standards in accordance with academic policies and procedures.
- Plan and deliver instruction according to the Faculty Workload Policy.
- Provide leadership in course development, scheduling, and classroom management.
- Develop course outlines and teaching materials based on the state curriculum standards and change the curriculum as needed.
- Assist faculty in establishing and executing student learning and program outcomes and assess related data for continuous improvement of student success.
- Recruit, schedule, advise, and evaluate dental assistant adjunct instructors.
- Direct support staff.
- Organize and administer all details of the program to ensure quality instruction.
- Help complete and maintain planning and assessment documents.
- Provide instruction in a variety of dental assisting courses in the program.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all dental equipment, ensuring proper dissemination of such equipment throughout the dental assisting schedule.
- Maintain correspondence with the Commission on Dental Accreditation to establish and maintain program approval.
- Collaborate with industry partners to maintain a relationship/partnership, and ensure the program addresses service area needs, including current and future needs.
- Collaborate with secondary and university partners to facilitate student access, progression, and completion of dental assisting career pathways.
- Schedule use of program facilities.
- Budget preparation and fiscal administration.
- Attends meetings and events and actively participates in committees and task forces.
- Completes required professional development annually.
- Attend required campus events including graduation, professional development, and employee meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
1. Bachelor's degree required; and,
2. Diploma from an accredited dental assisting program; and,
3. Instruction in educational theory and methodology, i.e. curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement, and evaluation
Minimum Work Experience:
1. A minimum of three years of full-time or equivalent experience as a clinical dental assistant;
Knowledge and Skills:
Occupational experience in applying dentistry principles. Teaching and administrative experience leading to this level of responsibility. Demonstration of skills in the areas of: communication, organization, and managing multiple priorities; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, community groups, and others; demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative team environment; display respect for social, cultural, spiritual, and intellectual diversity.
Licensing Requirement: Current credential: Dental Assisting National Board-Certified Dental Assistant or Dentist licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina.
